Big day for information today This morning we had an in-home visit with Maddison’s PT and OT to discuss her posture and sitting - and a whole bunch more . A couple weeks ago our chiropractor had noted Maddison was slouching to the right - something that I never really saw until it was pointed out. Because this can cause some serious damage if not corrected, we started working hard with her therapists, and at home, to help Maddison to correct it. . In our meeting this morning we discussed different seating positions for Maddison to make sure she is better supported when sitting. This means moving away from so much time spent independently sitting. She tires easily, so all the independent sitting is fostering this bad habit of slouching and we want to see her posture improve. The good news is the seat we have at home (which is from Walmart) actually works perfectly for Maddison until she gets her Special Tomato seat that goes with her specialized stroller. All of this lead into a conversation of a personal mobility device (like the firefly scooot) and also power mobility (which we’ve trialled before, but are pursuing more now). So these look like things that could be in Maddison’s future! . Then this afternoon we had another appointment with Maddison’s chiropractor. Good news all the hard work we’ve put in over the past couple weeks (after the slouch was brought to our attention) correcting Maddison’s posture, giving her more opportunities to use her lower back muscles, and stretching her back in extension has shown great improvement. She’s straighter, and even though her back is still pretty tight, it’s not as tight as it’s been in the past, and she’s got far more movement. . So it’s been a pretty busy day today with lots of information (far more than I could put into one IG post) so we’re going to just take it easy for the rest of the day and let all the information settle. . . . #specialneedsmom #specialneedsjourney #medicalmama #medicalmom #momlife #mommyhood #momsofinstagram

I’ve never seen my child cry like this before. It’s not a tired cry, or even a breakdown cry. . It’s a heartbroken cry. . We just left her very last day of preschool. She seemed to be silly and aloof about it all until we got to the parking lot. Then, as she choked back sobs, she said quietly, “I’m just really going to miss them.” . That’s when the floodgates opened for both of us. . I tried to say the right things like, “just because they’re not our teachers anymore doesn’t mean they can’t be our friends,” or “when something ends something new begins,” but that just made her cry harder. So I remembered what helped me when I spent a solid chunk of my twenties nursing a broken heart: . Time. . The last thing I said was, “I know. This is hard. But remember, ‘We can do hard things,’” then we rode the rest of the way letting our tears out as loud as we wanted, grabbed some ice cream for good measure, and came home to rest in bed. . Watching my five-year-old process the loss of her first love—her teachers—is the most humbling moment I’ve had as her mother. I didn’t even know she was capable of feeling this deeply. But it also means they’ve done a tremendous job with her. She was the recipient of good, good love, and yes my sweet girl, sometimes when you get that gold, it’s incredibly hard to let go. . . . #autism #lastdayofpreschool #preschoolteachers #teachersareheroes #autismawareness #autismmom #highfunctioningautism #girlswithautism #boyswithautism #specialneeds #specialneedskids #specialneedsparent #specialneedsmom #aspergers @glennondoyle #lovewarrior #wecandohardthings #iamtheeverymom #herviewfromhome @herviewfromhome #parentsirl #friscoteachers #friscoisd #lifeinfrisco @mother.ly

Im not sure what's most impressive here... 1. Zach revamped this box bike to become a "special needs" bike so that we didn't have to pay $8,000 for one. 2. I now can take ALL 3 kids on a bike ride by myself. OR 3. Zach's impressive video skills while riding a bike blind! ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ . BUT what I do know is that if you see this HUGE bus on the road you will DEFINITELY know who it is! #wecanthide . This is truly my happy place!! Creating ways to do "normal" every day things that other families...other 10 year old boys can do. Dakota may not be pedaling but you can TOTALLY tell he is LOVING the wind in his hair!!! ❤❤❤ . Im seriously considering making zach take me on a date in this while I just get to sit back and enjoy the ride. #totallyserious #itshappening . P.S. This bike has pedal assist which saves my life and legs!! I may never ride a normal bike again!! . I put a few details in my story so that you can see the inspiration behind why we made this bike and the fancy way zach did it. I promise it is safe!!

This mama needed a smile today and this photo did just that. Thank you #Facebook for this #tbt when she was only 6 months old. Some days I wish we can just go back to those days when things seemed so much easier.
