America’s 60th National Park. We first visited this park years ago when it was a drive-in, drive-out National Memorial, and we were excited to see it again yesterday with the completion of its massive $380 million dollar redevelopment project, started years before it became a national park. Everything but the arch has been completely transformed. The park has new landscaping which incorporates new bike paths and better access to surrounding neighborhoods, with a grassy land bridge over the highway that connects it to the Old Courthouse. The Visitor Center and museum have been renovated and expanded to 150,000 sq ft, and sport a stunning new entrance. A trail sign pointing straight ahead, but if you don’t look closely you’ll miss the next sign and find yourself staring down into a canyon. I tried dragging all my equipment up the dunes in less than an hour and about half way up the dunes I had to stop and turn around and shoot where I was. I coulda gone further but I woulda missed out on precious shooting time. I am so glad the clouds stayed away as well. Take in the magnificent views at Zion National Park. ••••• Thanks to Daniel @dantyartphotography for the Inspiration. ・・・ A Touch of Warmth; I have been to Zion many times but every single times, I never really went out to shoot sunrise. My days in Zion are always busy! I always love to do two of my favorite hikes of all which are The Narrows and The Subway. Those two hikes are pretty long so I start even before sunrise. Sadly, during that trip to Zion, both my favorite hikes where impossible to do due to heavy precipitations and snow melting down too fast...the water flow of the Virgin River went all the way up to an astonishing 500 cubic feet per second!!! For references, the Rangers close The Narrows at around 150 cubic feet per second! So there was no way I was gonna do The Narrows with that much water flow...I am a pretty good swimmer but.... And when the water level is too high in the Virgin River, things aren’t any better at The Subway either!! I had to find other options to fill those days and I knew that Court of the Patriarch is really nice for sunrise. I wanted to do something different than what a lot of people have been doing lately so I came up with this composition which I really like!! I really liked that there was still some snow between the mountains as I think it helps a lot to separate them from each other! It was quite cloudy that morning but Zion is almost always nice enough to give us that perfect beautiful light at the right moment!! One slim slice of the three Patriarch, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lid up beautifully for a few minutes but just enough for me to get the shot! It felt exactly like if they were on fire!! The light became pretty boring right after, so it was time to feed the belly!! Hope you like it!! Shot on Canon 5DSr with Canon 11-24 f4.0 at f11, 1.3 second and ISO 50. I did use my @fotodioxpro Wonderpana XL 3 stop filter to slow down the motion of water of water just enough to create those beautiful stripes of water pointing into my composition!! ——- #nationalparkgeek #FYPyes #nps #nationalpark #nationalparks #americasbestidea #findyourpark #goparks #nature #naturelovers #npca #zion
