A C19th English tub armchair raised on turned walnut legs with original brass casters. All traditionally restored using horsehair, the chair is in excellent original condition and rather charmingly bears the signatures of it’s three upholsterers over the past 180 years including our very own Mariano’s, English, circa 1840 #foundbyhowe⠀

Lindsay has balanced heavy awkward forms of the flowers against the slight curves of the other foliage. He has also used the graver with great effect to make a varied pattern of the large shapes and shadows of the background. Because of the skilful use of line in the tone of the dahlias the two white flowers outlined in black seem even more startling. In contrast with most of Lindsay's woodcuts this has an almost Post-Impressionist feel to it as he exploits the natural gawkiness of suburban flowers to create abstract forms.Reference Mendelssohn 1982 p.67 ill.
