The joy of movement again... I’ll be honest, this week was tough for various reasons but one of the biggest things for me was not being able to workout. Being sick last weekend took a toll on my body and even when I wasn’t laying down, my strength levels were low. I couldn’t take a deep breathe that wasn’t followed by an intense coughing fit. Today, it was fun and refreshing to be able to move - it was fun to try new exercises and feel my heart rate go up without feeling like my lungs couldn’t keep up. ⠀⠀ Today’s core challenge is a combination of a see saw and an ab rollout. As always to goal is making sure that you can keep your lower back flat no matter what part of the range your extremities are in. Moves by @bigsean

You are Enough... ⠀⠀ This week one of the hardest things I had to do was convince myself of the phrase above. That I was enough - that all the things I work hard for were enough, that I was making a difference in the life of those around me, and so forth and so on. This is one of the reasons why I workout because it keeps me out of that space but sometimes it’s not possible to and the roller coaster is inevitable. I’m writing this because how I feel at a certain moment doesn’t change the fact of who I am and I want you to understand that. All those negative thoughts that you’re struggle with right now, doesn’t change how wonderful, beautiful, and fearfully created you were. It doesn’t change the fact that you are so loved! It doesn’t change the fact that you’ve made something of yourself, no matter what part of the journey you’re at. You’re enough, you’re enough, you’re enough - and you need to believe that to the fullest.

Single leg lateral explosion ⠀⠀ Thinking of taking your lateral movement to a whole different level? This is a movement you’d want to add to your repertoire. Other than forward and backwards, there are many sports that require lateral movements that are efficient and powerful - ie skating ⠀⠀ Skaters are a great exercise when working on lateral movement, especially when you’re trying to get your heart rate up. This variation, works on single leg power, knee balance, core activation, hip stability, and not to mention are a lot of fun to do. Behind the scenes magic in the story

So many of you may not know what the CAT(C) in my bio stands for, but it means I am a Certified Athletic Therapist accredited by the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association (CATA). Part of my job is to provide on-field medical coverage for sporting events but another huge part of what I do is provide clinical treatment too! As an Athletic Therapist, I assess and treat musculoskeletal injuries which means if you've got something going on with muscles, bones, or joints, athletic or not, I've got you covered. @derekkinhaylo is a good friend of mine who was kind enough to let me share this so a big shoutout to him to start! Derek came to me with an issue with his knees and after just two appointments, he can go back to his sport of Olympic Weightlifting without pain and is educated on how to prevent that pain from coming back. Just because you aren't an "athlete" doesn't mean you can't see me. Your activity may be physical movements for work, or even just daily life tasks. Athletic therapy is for everyone. Movement shouldn't be painful, and if it is, let me help change that! I'm always happy to help! . . . . . . . #athletictherapy #athletictherapist #whateveryourfinishline #athletictherapyisforeveryone #movement #rehabilitation #effectivetherapy #musculoskeletalinjuries #painfree #painfreemovement #knees #yyctherapist

I head to the 5th international Fascia Research Congress soon so I thought I would share some of my favorite Fascia oriented books I have referenced over the years!⁣ ⁣ I’ve been fascia-nated () with fascia for almost my entire professional life. It’s been 16 years since I first picked up Thomas Myers’ @anatomytrainsofficial book and the world of fascia has been on a high speed track of more and more information since!⁣ ⁣ Shortly after picking up that book, thanks to @balanced_body I stumbled upon Elizabeth Larkam, and she was so wise and spoke so thoroughly of whole body movement along the Fascia lines, I was both intimidated and inspired and knew that the next time I was able to learn from her, I needed to be better prepared! So into the deep dive I went. That is why I place Tom’s and Elizabeth’s books at the base of my pile. Her book, though recently published is the years and years of her work that I was lucky enough to be engulfed in and learn from early on. I have a handful of mentors but Elizabeth is one of them I can say really shaped me and I continue to learn from and be inspired by.⁣ ⁣ There have been other books and lots of workshops, conferences, and journal articles that are missing in this stack. Two other primary people were Dr. James Oschman and Carol Davis, PT. I was reading Dr. Oschmans energy medicine and quantum physics papers in 2003 and finally heard him and Carol speak in 2010 at the @polestarpilates International conference which brought it more to light and application. That was a big game changer in my world, that began a journey into more manual therapy approaches like the visceral manipulation.⁣ ⁣ I attended the 4th International Fascia Research Congress In 2015 and wrote a blog article about what I learned! You can find it on my blog page (link in bio). I look forward to being back even more knowledge to inspire and inform my sports healthcare practice next week from Berlin!⁣ ⁣ There is so much to learn about the body and I hope you jump down the rabbit hole and find yourself lost and curious. ⁣
