Beyond grateful for this opportunity and the people who have helped me get here from High-school and the Community College. My junior year of high school I was told that if I quit cross country I wouldn’t be able to run in college, so I quit and joined cheer again only realizing how much I missed running. I got the opportunity to continue at a juco and now I’m competing at the Universities highest level. My favorite thing about my corner of Arizona is the incredibly lush landscape. Most notably, the diversity of the plant life and the unobstructed view of mountains covered in saguaros. It’s a desert paradise that is so different from the bustling beach adjacent city that I grew up in. I feel so lucky to have lived in both California and Arizona. I used to think that lifting weights only served one purpose; to look good naked lol. I also used to think that you weren’t a real lifter unless you had huge muscles and were lean enough to see all your veins and striations. Today I realize this is all false (even though looking good naked is a benefit). Today I know I can carry a higher body fat percentage (because I my hips) and still belong in the weight room. progress. just make progress. it’s okay to have setbacks and the need for do-overs. it’s okay to draw a line in the sand and start over. just make sure you’re moving the line forward. take baby steps. then change will come. and it will be good. _ i saw this quote and immediately LOVED IT. being pregnant is the best and most amazing thing. _ but pregnancy also has many changes! changes in my body, my appetite, my sleep, and even my mentality. there’s been a huge shift in my priorities where having a healthy pregnancy now comes first. that means taking it easy on days where i feel like i need it. it means making sure i am eating more frequently than usual and getting proper nutrition for me and baby boy. i absolutely love living a happy and healthy life. it’s made the biggest and happiest impact in my life. but at times i can feel like i’m NOT making progress. i’m not making progress in my physique, and i’m not making progress in weights. and this is so discouraging some days. it’s been an unusual adjustment not being able to lift as heavy as i usually can. and this makes motivation for going to the gym HARD. my reasons for going to the gym have changed from pushing myself to be better and stronger physically and mentally, to having a healthy and active pregnancy. lifting has always been a therapy for me. going in and destroying the weights is freeing and my number one motivation. hitting new PR’s and pushing heavy weight gives me strength and purpose. but that’s all changing. and i sometimes feel like i’m falling behind and i get so frustrated with myself. _ but what i realized is that progress is measured in so many different ways. so don’t be so hard on yourself if you don’t see progress right away, or if you feel like you’re also in a lull. look for ways you ARE making progress. not all the ways you feel like you are NOT. giving up my passion for weightlifting is worth it to be a mom. and as soon as i have baby boy, i know i can enjoy my gym sessions to the fullest again. but as for now, life is about enjoying the journey. i’m only going to be pregnant with this baby once and i want to enjoy it and soak all of it in! SO JUST LOVE YOURSELF!
