Fashion. So much more than just a piece of garment. It is a way to express your dreams, passion, culture, political opinion or whatever else you want to communicate through your physical appearance. Last week I learned that it can also stand for something else: Opportunities. Avido, the young man you see in this picture, grew up in the slums of Nairobi. Since he was a young boy he had the dream of becoming a fashion designer, to work with local artisans and to bring the fabrics and colors from his childhood streets into the world. Due to the fact that he never stopped dressing in his unique style, he caught the attention of a young German UN employee called Ruven who used to work on projects in the slum area Avido grew up in. Just after he encountered this captivating human being( I mean look at his laugh), Ruven decided to let go his UN job to jump together with this young designer into the unknown, establishing a brand together and trying to bring Avido’s colorful dreams outside of Kenya. Last week, Avido and I were able to present for the very first time our ethical clothes outside our home countries, at the fashion week in Berlin. Thank you @zeitmagazin and @neonyt.berlin for bringing us together and supporting the next generation daring the attempt to steer the clothing industry towards a more sustainable direction. . .
