If you could improve one thing about Biblios, what would it be? Thank you @boardgame.lite for the amazing shot! - boardgame.lite: BIBLIOS An ingenious design that smoothly combines a number of different mechanisms (auction, drafting, set collection, hand management & press-your-luck.) It’s streamlined & simple yet so interesting & fun. It scales well with all player counts, 2 player games are especially quick. This game incorporates a unique use of dice: they are never actually rolled. Instead, values are changed with the use of cards, which dictate the worth of that dice’s category. Players utilize memory & observation to gather information about the contents of their opponents cards & the auction pile. Using this information will aid in making optimal decisions of what cards to keep, pass on, bid on, etc. As a connoisseur of light, filler-level games, I see why Biblios has been dubbed the “King of Fillers.”

If you’d asked me to describe my perfect game, I doubt it would involve the phrase, ‘Monks working on old books’, yet here it is, one of my absolute favourite games of all time, the superb Biblios from Steve Finn and @iello_usa! ⛪️ Biblios is a pretty simple set collecting game, in which players are secretly building a hand of cards in the hopes of dominating at least one or two of the 5 sets, scoring the pips on the dice at the end of the game for each set they collect. What’s truly great is the fact that in any game random cards are discarded before the start, so you never quite know which cards aren’t included, meaning some sets could have less cards than usual, or there are less ways to affect the dice. Affecting the dice, then, comes from the ‘church cards’, and if you choose to use one of these you can modify the dice either by adding or subtracting pips, a particularly tense change as players around the table are clearly chasing that set! ⛪️ After the initial draw phase, where each player gains, gives away and puts cards into the auction pile, the remaining auction cards are shuffled and turned over one by one, with each player bidding for them with gold, or bidding for gold with face down cards of any type. It becomes a tense (and often hilarious) bidding war, until the auction pile has run out and all sets are revealed. The player with the highest score on their collected dice is the Biblios King! ⛪️ Biblios shares something in common with For Sale, another game I really enjoy. But the clever use of an auction pile formed by each of the players, and the forced giveaway to other players of cards you don’t keep really makes this one stand out. It doesn’t look it, but this one is hilarious, with the right people, of course (luckily I’m friends with the best game group ever!)! Love, love love! ⛪️ Have you played this one?

Decisions… decisions… Biblios is a quick to teach, quick to play game for 2-4 that provides a subtle and satisfying heft of strategy. You have to carefully choose your cards during the gifting phase where you allocate cards to yourself, the auction, and to the public, paying close attention to what everyone is taking. In the auction phase you need to wisely choose which cards to bid on, using the cards you collected in the gifting phase, in order to increase your chances of having the best collection. Manipulation of the dice is key as you work to secure a win without parting with too much of your collection in the process. This game is great at all player counts and is a satisfying two player for those nights you want a quick, non-taxing strategy game after successfully winning the bedtime battle with your children. #mytop9boardgames currently... I think! This is a hard decision to make, and new games jump into my current favourites all the time (which I consider myself extremely lucky for!), but these are definitely some of the games that have impressed me the most over the last few months or more: #barenpark from @philwalkerharding has been a favourite ever since I first read the rules. It’s super simple to teach and an absolute joy to play! ⛪ #biblios is my most played game over the last year, and surprisingly hilarious! I absolutely adore this game, and it has turned set collection into a favourite mechanic! #castlesofburgandy just gets better with each play. Super dry but super thinky, every decision feels important! #cryptidboardgame is probably my favourite new game since Christmas. It’s a quick but incredibly satisfying puzzle game, and always ends in a discussion afterwards! #deepseaadventuregame proves that a simple game can go toe to toe with the heavier fare any day of the week when designed well. The epitome of clever small box designs, this one is hilarious fun with gamers of all levels! #k2boardgame really took me by surprise. I was not expecting it to be so thematic and interesting. Essentially a race to the top of the mountain, it’s an incredibly tense and involving battle against both other players and the elements. ⚔️ #lordsofwaterdeep is my favourite worker placement game yet. Incredibly accessible and yet deep enough for all gamers, it just does away with any clever nonsense and lets you get on with enjoying the simple act of placing a worker and gaining rewards! #nearandfar is my first @redravengames purchase and instantly hooked me. Incredibly immersive, this is an adventure game like no other. I absolutely adored every game of our campaign! Tigris and Euphrates has been a firm favourite ever since I first played it. The mechanics are incredibly cleverly integrated with the theme, and it’s amazing to me just how clever every move you make can feel. I absolutely need to play this more!

Our gaming friend hosted a two day gaming event called Doodlecon. It was amazing!! So many games, so many new gaming friends, and so many chips eaten. I love spending a weekend with like minded people.
