I struggle with oversharing. Sharing our story and my emotions doesn't come easy to me. The event Chris and I started last year to support @ccvi1952 is an event that quickly became very personal to me. The purpose of starting Illuminate was not to bring awareness or funding for our son, rather for all visually impaired children that need significant help to meet the developmental milestones that come natural for sighted children. As I am sitting here working on my DNP coursework about the lack of attention in research to the global health crisis, I can't help but think about the lack of attention to the visually impaired child. There is little to no funding for a child to receive speciality services to assist in their development. We are currently fighting with our insurance to get any sort of funding to help cover the incredibly costly services of specialists that are specifically trained to care for the visually impaired. Mac has 5 specialists from CCVI and will be adding more to his team as he progresses. He has already been completely denied by insurance. It's so frustrating to me and makes me so sad for those parents who are too busy working multiple jobs and do not have time to fight the insurance companies to provide coverage for their child's needs. This road is tough. I am so thankful for friends who get it and support us through it all. We have several friends who have children Mac's age and I cannot tell you how hard it is to watch their children and realize just how far behind your child is compared to their sighted peer. I know Mac is smart, I know he realizes what is going on, but it is still hard to watch kids running, getting into things and being your typical 2 year old and Mac isn't close to that stage yet (minus the tantrums). Please don't get me wrong, we know he blesses us more than we know; however, moments like these are an emotional struggle at times. So, to share my why, to share why I would love for you to join us on August 8th at Illuminate - a benefit that supports CCVI - this is it. Mac wouldn't be where he is without this amazing team. Chris and I took a trip for us ❤️and it was so good! That mom guilt can really get to you for taking a trip without your kiddos, however it’s so important to make sure your marriage is strong and you have the time for you. This weekend was perfect. We didn’t have big plans, rather just had a leisurely weekend and hung with some of the best people. @bree_hueners and her hubby were good for our souls.
