Here are some of my most eagerly anticipated reads of the year which I have managed to track down. Have you read any of them already? What are your thoughts? Yesterday was a very hectic day as I flew out to Estonia for a couple of weeks. Do you have any recommendations for what to do in Estonia or know of any Estonia related books worth checking out? All the literary travel destinations or bookshop recommendations are welcome. I might pop into Helsinki or Stockholm for a day trip. When I am there I’ll ask you about these destinations. #gifted #wordchild #bookflatlay #newbooks #bookhaul #bookstack #whatimreading #readerforlife #readersofinsta

"You're not a fighter, are you?" Her voice was so serene and melodious that it would have been impossible not to devote all his complete and exclusive attention to it. To hear it was more beautiful than to hear the most beautiful song that ever existed. That was a warm, loving song that ran down his spine with little punctures of satisfaction; a beautiful tingling. "No, you're not," she continued, giggling. "You are a lover!" ⠀ The giggle stayed in his head. ⠀ Her face. ⠀ He had forgotten her face. ⠀ But it didn't matter, did it? ⠀ What did matter was, perhaps, the sword in his hand. Why did he have it? Why did he want it? Why would he ever want it? It made no sense. ⠀ He did not need a sword. ⠀ He was a lover. ⠀ By the time he thought about it again, he had nothing to worry about. The sword had disappeared. It was gone, never to return. ⠀ Behind him, he heard sounds. Voices. Someone calling for him. But for what? Why would anyone call him? Why would anyone have such a soft hand? ⠀ Yes, it was really soft. Soft as silk. Or soft, perhaps, like the loving waves that began to caress his cheeks. So soft, and warm, and beautiful. ⠀ Once again, the voices. They came from behind him. They piled up in the corners of his mind like echoes of words said a long time ago, in a very distant childhood. And like an old memory, he could not understand. Maybe he shouldn't understand. ⠀ After all, it was just saying nonsense. ⠀ "Fight," shouted someone in the distance. So far away, that they could have been shouting it from a mountain on the other side of the world. ⠀ How stupid. ⠀ He didn't fight. ⠀ He was a lover. ⠀ Please comment if you liked the style of this story ❤ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ Draw by: Elvira Shatunova (ArtStation)

"Nervous about tomorrow's battle, boy?" ⠀ The question took Brendon by surprise. Especially coming from an old man of few words as his captain was. ⠀ "A little," he replied. ⠀ "Tell me, why did you enter this war?" ⠀ "For the same reason as everyone else, sir. To protect my nation." ⠀ The captain lit a thick cigar that shone in the middle of the dark night. The horse protested for the smoke, but kept walking. ⠀ "Very brave of you, boy," he congratulated him, before taking a hard puff. "Tell me, do you know why we took this road?" ⠀ "To get to the battle front, sir." ⠀ "The battle front is to the north, and we are going west. It would be easier and quicker to take the road to the mountains, but we are surrounding them. Why?" ⠀ "I... I don't know, sir." ⠀ "You see, for some years now, a colossal beast went in there. Once upon a time we would have taken it out, but now we are at war. Haven't you heard of it?" ⠀ "No. I didn't even know there was a road there". ⠀ "Well, there is. And the beast that lives there... well, it's kind of peculiar. They call it the Sun Eater. Do you know why? Because every sunset, when it can finally stare at it, red, powerful, fears it. And because it fears it, it attacks it. All the sunsets, it comes out of its cave and begins to bite the air. No exceptions. It believes that the sun, which only makes its usual course, is its enemy. What a useless task." ⠀ Brendon sighed as he glanced at the mountains. ⠀ "If you put it like that, sir, I feel sorry for the beast". ⠀ "It's curious. Maybe you should feel sorry for us, since we are in the same situation". ⠀ "Not at all, sir. We are not the beast. We know very well who is the enemy that threatens our nation". ⠀ "Do you? So tell me, boy, did anyone tell you why are they threatening our nation? Do you know that? Or did they simply tell you to come and give your life for your nation?" ⠀ Brendon tought about that, and didn't know what to answer. ⠀ "That's what I thought," he sighed. "But this sun will hurt us. You don't have to die in vain, kid. Tomorrow, when the trumpets sound, run away". ⠀ -A Long Way, chapter A- ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ Draw by: @talesofthedamned

Ok! Immerhin sieht es schön aus, hallooo Ein Mal möchte ich auch oberflächlich sein und jetzt hören: Aɴɴᴀ, ᴡɪᴇ ʜᴜ̈ʙsᴄʜ sɪɴᴅ ᴅᴇɴɴ ᴅᴇɪɴᴇ Rᴇɢᴀʟᴇ?! . . . . #shelfie #rainbowshelf #nachfarbesortiert #bookstagram #instabooks #booknerd #booknerdigans #addictedtobooks #bookaddict #bookaddicted #mybookfeatures #bookstafeature #blackshelfie

✌️️ 3 x War and Peace. INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY. (Europe&US) #longdayslongbooks. To celebrate summer’s long days I've teamed up with #OxfordUniversityPress to offer 3 winners a copy of #LeoTolstoy’s #WarandPeace, translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude. To win, leave a comment that you are interested, like this post and follow me @wordchild. Based on Maudes’ translation this edition is lightly updated to be more readable, to restore passages in French, and to use the original Russian spelling of names. An introduction by Amy Mandelker considers the novel's literary and historical context, the nature of the work, and Tolstoy's artistic and philosophical aims. Helpful notes provide historical background and identifications, as well as insight into Russian life and society. The book includes lists of historical characters and their fictional families, a chronology of Tolstoy and of historical events in the novel, five maps, and Tolstoy's essay 'Some Words about War and Peace' in the Appendix. I am a big fan of #oxfordworldsclassics and so far I own 5 colourful editions. If you would like to learn more about these beautiful classics I have added a link to the website in my stories. T&C’s: This giveaway is running in partnership with Oxford University Press, their Privacy Policy sets out how OUP handles personal information, and your rights to object to personal information being used for marketing to you or being processed as part of their business activities. Personal information of the winner(s) will be shared with OUP for the purpose of prize fulfilment only. #wordchild #bookstack #goodread #bestbooks #bookstagrammer #bookstagramuk
