16 miles for breakfast at 5am on zero hours of sleep thanks to my crazy job and it’s hours Got home after 12:30am, Just couldn’t fall asleep, so decided to get my run in before it got too hot, but still managed to sweat buckets and appear to have gone for a swim. ‍♂️Thank you Adrenalin and youth for getting me through this morning . Solid first big long run workout. (Only did the workout portion on the track, rest was 1 mile moderate recovery run). Running sure makes you question your sanity a few times a week . #throwingitback to my last race — the 2019 @bostonmarathon It was such a memorable experience.. the energy in the city is incredible for the entire weekend! I’m so happy I got to take it all in this year ☺️ the race itself was actually not as hard as most people say—the hills were not bad at all! I’m from Miami, where everything is pancake flat, and the causeways I use for hill training are at least 3x the steepness of Heartbreak Hill! The hills were just a little long but barely noticeable ‍♀️ If you are a runner, please make it a plan to run this race at least once! Are YOU following the 80/20 rule? ⭐️80% EASY running miles ⭐️20% HARD effort runs 80/20 rule is the secret sauce of FAST runners ➡️ YOUR EASY PACE IS: 2-3+ min per mile SLOWER than 5k PACE effort of 2-3 on the 10 scale conversational/singing pace ⭐️Benefits of easy running⭐️ ✅Active Recovery- running at a slower pace helps facilitate blood flow to muscles that need repair after a hard workout (fast running). It will help speed up the recovery process. When your heart is working too hard (running too fast), it actually puts more stress on your body and debilitates the healing process. When your body is not able to recover correctly between “fast” running days, you won’t improve! ✅Micro level adaptations- lower intensity training helps the growth of mitochondria & an increased capillary capacity so oxygen can be exchanged in your cells more efficiently. This means your muscles can get the oxygen they need to keep running faster the more your capillaries are developed. Making it easier to run at faster paces without feeling like you can’t breathe!! ❌WHY is running fast all the time a problem?❌ There is a gray zone that can feel “easy” to some athletes (between half marathon pace and 30 sec slower than marathon pace) . However, it is NOT EASY ENOUGH to recover from quality workouts. When you spent too much time in the gray zone, it can add unwanted additional stress to your training. Too much stress will be harder to hit paces on workout days. When workout days are compromised, the training plan is compromised! Many athletes unintentionally hang in the Gray Zone quite a bit. It can feel ‘weird’ to slow down. Tips for staying out of GRAY ZONE ✅Put your strava or training on private mode if you care about that kind of thing ✅ run with friends who are slower than you ✅try running on the treadmill and watching netflix ✅run without music or try listening to a podcast comment your tips below
