Happy Half-Birthday to our Roman This was not the way we had in mind when planning his party, but we are incredibly lucky that he is with us today to celebrate his life. We are so grateful for this little guy right here. He is our world and our everything. We are so blessed to have two beautiful healthy babies. I understand how critical the first year of life is, which is why I believe and celebrate in half birthdays. I hope to share a more thorough story about what has happened to our little dude - but for short - on Friday afternoon he was lethargic and had trouble swallowing. On Saturday it was worse so I took him to the hospital. After a bunch of tests and no answers, he was diagnosed with BOTULISM, a rare poisoning caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It is basically an airborne spore which is released when deep rooted soil is dug up, like huge construction sites. Babies under the age of one do not have the antibodies to fight off this fatal toxin and the body basically begins to become paralyzed. However, if caught soon enough, there is an antibody made in California called #babybig. This medicine will stop the progression and also shorten the duration of recovery. In time, I will share further details of our story, but for now thank you to everyone for all of your prayers and kind words, all the phone calls, text messages, meal vouchers, get well soon cards, balloons and visits to the hospital. I can't believe today marks an entire week that we've been in the hospital with you Max From hearing you were admitted to Mercy then being airlifted to Little Rock and being in the PICU and now the ITU, it's been awful. I thank the Lord that the neurologists and infectious disease doctors found the extremely rare disease you have called Botulism. ACH has done so much to make us feel comfortable and so has everyone that prayed and brought stuff to us❤ We're hoping he can be discharged next week and we can continue therapy at home. Today is rare disease day, the main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives. May 2011, Kamryn was diagnosed with infant botulism. Infant botulism has nothing at all to do with Kamryn’s diagnosis of deletion 22q(chromosomal disorder she was born with), just lucky her, she got both. Infant botulism is an illness that can happen when a baby ingests bacteria that produce a toxin inside the body. The condition can be frightening because it can cause muscle weakness and breathing problems. But it is very rare: Fewer than 100 cases of infant botulism happen each year in the United States, and most babies who do get botulism recover fully. Soil can contain C. botulinum spores, which can circulate in the air and be inhaled into the lungs. In the United States, the risk is greatest in Pennsylvania, Utah and California — where soil botulinum spore counts are high. Exposure to contaminated soil is most likely near construction and agricultural sites or other areas where soil is disturbed. This is how we believe Kamryn contracted botulism. Wild honey is a potential source of C. botulinum spores. Avoid giving honey — even a tiny taste — to babies under the age of 1 year. Constipation is often the first sign of infant botulism, typically accompanied by floppy movements, weakness, and difficulty sucking or feeding. If you suspect your baby might have infant botulism, seek medical help immediately. Yesterday's breakfast unflavored agar-agar greek yogurt with honey and chia seeds (honey shouldn't be given to babies younger than 1 year old) peeled and unpeeled apple Agar-agarnya habis, yogurt dan apelnya gak habis. Nuh baru dikasih madu pas dia udah berusia setahun, Ummu Nuh nunda dulu karena sering baca kalo bayi di bawah setahun sebaiknya gak dikasih madu. "Madu termasuk makanan alami yang tampaknya aman diberikan pada semua kalangan. Namun, madu mengandung bakteri Clostridium botulinum yang bisa berdampak buruk bagi kesehatan sang bayi. Bakteri tersebut biasanya aman jika dikonsumsi oleh anak-anak berusia 1 tahun ke atas, namun sebaliknya jika dikonsumsi oleh bayi berusia 1 tahun ke bawah belum memiliki usus yang kuat untuk melawan bakteri tersebut. Hasilnya, bakteri bisa berkembang dan memproduksi racun yang bisa memicu keracunan makanan (#botulisme ). Bakteri Clostridium botulinum bisa menyerang sistem sarafnya, membuat otot-ototnya lemah bahkan lumpuh, serta mengganggu sistem pernapasannya.
