I think what I'm most proud of on this journey I've taken on, is an ability to inspire others. My life's goal has been to make a difference somewhere/ somehow. I get messages all the time or comments on my posts stating I've inspired someone. That's a powerful thing. I've never looked at myself as an inspiration, but have been inspired tremendously by humanity and some very amazing people along the way! Now for me to be an inspiration to someone or something, has made me pause. I had to stop and say, "what do I want to inspire and if I'm going to have a message it better be powerful and make a difference!" I think my dolls do that and in a way I would have never dreamed. Most people never thought of using there own skin tone to make dolls because the fairer yarns/dolls are what was expected and were the social norm. I see people daily who have at minimum an olive complexion still use a white yarn to depict their dolls. I even saw a Latina use a white yarn for a doll she made for her daughter. This world is changing and it's changing fast. There is a huge population of people who have tan or brown skin and it's ok for you and your doll to not only represent but celebrate that fact! Hello new world!! This artist sent me these two photos and stated "I normally just make light skinned dolls, but after seeing yours I decided to try and make my very first dark skinned doll, the first is a pic of what I normally make the second was inspired by you, thank you " (For this post I had to change it to left and right. These are not my dolls @deealbon1 ) I was in tears! Both dolls are equally beautiful! This simple message means the world to me. It says my hard work and being different is being accepted and even celebrated.
