@chanelofficial has been slowly but steadily building up its line of mechanical watches powered by high-end, in-house movements. The Chanel Boy.Friend Caliber 3 is equipped with the Maison’s third in-house movement. The Calibre 3 has been constructed to incorporate a series of repeating, interlocking circles, a favourite motif of Chanel’s chief watch designer, @arnaud.chastaingt . Due to the model’s skeleton style design, there is no conventional dial employed. Time display is shown via beige gold hands placed directly on the movement: contrasting with the lightness and transparency, the wheels and bridges have all been treated with matt black ADLC. Yesterday I was able to put my hands on the Zenith El Primero Defy 21 @juwelier_rueschenbeck in Cologne. @Zenithwatches introduced this watch in 2017. And it’s for sure a technologically interesting one. The Defy 21 features a 1/100 of a second chronograph, which allows to measure fractions of one second. This is quite impressive because the chronograph hand goes incredibly fast and at the same time the watch makes a buzzing noise. So you really feel that there is something going on. The watch features a brand new movement, which is a modern variation of the famous high-beat El Primero movement, called El Primero 21. This movement basically has two escarpments: one for the time running at 36.000 vph, the other for the chronograph running at impressive 360.000 vph. The dial is skeletonized so that you can see this stunning little machine working. This adds also a lot of depth to the dial which makes the watch even more interesting - at least for my taste. As I’m a lover of blue dials I really like that the movement has some large blue parts in it. This looks great. The Defy 21 has a 44mm lightweight titanium case and comes either on a titanium bracelet or on a leather/ rubber strap. To be honest, I’m not that fan of titanium watches and I prefer heavier stainless steel watches. I think a lightweight watch always feels a bit cheap - even though the case is definitely well-made. Overall the Zenith El Primero 21 is an impressive and quite interesting watch.
