I loved changing out orange plates today for this kaleidoscope of Glasswing butterflies! ✨These are some of our most elusive and hard-to-find Lepidoptera in our exhibit. Only the size of a quarter, these transparent beauties tend to fly in the understory and occasionally in our canopy. As , they feed on poisonous plants in the Nightshade family (related to tomatoes!) and retain some of the plant toxins as an adult. Adult males sequester additional toxic compounds from flowers called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. We had so much fun at the Dino Day preview at the @calacademy! Check out my stories to see all of the Dino action.And these two!! London is becoming so protective of her brother. It’s so cute!! Their relationship is a constant struggle, just as it should be with siblings at this age, but they love as hard as they fight! My third wheel status is pending soon, but for now we are still the 3 musketeers. A miracle ending to the trip was that everyone was still awake when we went back over the Golden Gate Bridge. My grandfather built that bridge and every time we go over it the kids say this is our great grandfather bridge so we had to stop, take some pics, enjoy the most beautiful day in the city and eat some astronaut ice cream from the gift shop. My mama heart is beyond full from this day!

It was the first time I've ever seen adults of this species, despite the occasional acquisition and sales of them through our website. And so this was a real treat for me. Hi guys! Excited to announce that earlier this year I was contacted by the California Academy of Sciences to be a part of their new exhibit, “Giants of Land and Sea” showcasing the beautiful California coast, redwoods, and of course fog. I will have 10 Fog Wave images and this shot, along with others, will be in the museum for the next 5 yrs. In addition, been working with them to shoot high resolution panoramic images of the modern day San Francisco skyline as well as licensed images to them and their advertising agency reaching over 3.5M in magazines, newspapers, SFO airport, and many more. It’s been a lot of work but well worth it and sorry for my absence lately as I had to put my focus here. The exhibit starts June 15, 2018 but will be available for viewing on their weekly “NightLife” event this Thursday, June 14 from 6-10pm. My photos are a part of the theme and will be up in the museum @calacademy , but are not the main show. The place is vast with stuff that will blow your mind like a real life fog room, earth quake simulator, planetarium, rainforest, and many more. This museum was so much fun. It has a 4 story rainforest exhibit with butterflies and birds which is worth the price of admission alone. But there's a lot of other really cool exhibits to explore.
