Thank you all for your prayers and I know that my best friend is incredibly touched by your prayers for his dear departed father. Today is the wake and tomorrow the funeral, so please remember Thomas (that’s his name), especially during this time. . . This whole tragedy has had me thinking a great deal about life and death and our purpose in it all. I mean, it simply comes down to the fact that if this, the Catholic Faith, Christ’s story of redemption and His call for our holiness, is all true then if we aren’t obsessed with it, then we’re missing out on everything and living empty lives. We have to take this all seriously. . . We only get one life and society in its music and media tells us that because of that we should “live it up”. We should enjoy as much pleasure as possible in the short period of time we have. Sure. That makes sense, I guess, if you believe that we exploded from nothing. I’m sorry, but I just don’t buy it. One good reason is that when I see people, myself included, that have given into living a pleasure filled life, they aren’t happy and are left depressed and unfulfilled. The quote of St. Augustine comes to mind and it is possibly my favorite quote of all time, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in Thee.” We were made for God. So if He has no place in your life, then you aren’t living at all! So let us put God back in our lives, first, where He belongs and live a full life so that one day like my dear friend’s father we may meet Christ face to face and give an account of how we lived for Him! . .
