So yeah, I’ve been on a little bit of a hunt today. #dutchcomiccon was a success. First booth I hit I found the complete Venom: Lethal Protector miniserie. Twice! I also cleaned their box with Doctor Strange, his first soloserie. I was off to a flying start. Decided to leave a copy of the Killing Joke(1st print) and instead focus on the series I want to complete (Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight and New Mutants) and modern keys. I also kept my eyes out for major keys on my huntlist but they were not there or didn’t have the grade/price I wanted them for. And since I’ve been following @jimcomics and @comictom101 on YouTube as well as @comicbookinvestcbsi it’s been easier to spot the keys. The comic shops over here are very knowledgeable but at a Con there are other vendors that are not up to date so you have a better chance of finding (modern) keys. That’s how I found minor keys as: - Avengers 343 (possible tie-in to Avengers: Endgame through Black Knight) - Marvel boy 1 (1st Marvel boy) - Eternals 1 (Daniel Acuna white variant incentive cover) - Dark Avengers 1 (1st Iron patriot) - Invincible Iron Man 10 (1st Pepper Pots as Rescue, also possible tie-in to Avengers: endgame) - Part of Midnight Sons arc (Morbius 1, Ghost Rider 25 & 28, rumours about possible tv show around these characters) So shout to @comictom101 and @jimcomics and the #igcomicfamily at large for all the valuable info! It’s taken me weeks to finally sit down and enjoy this beauty! A MASSIVE shoutout to my fiendish friend @slabanderankle for this absolute MASTERPIECE! If you asked him, he would tell you that he’s a mere amateur humbly copying the works of legends, but if you ask ME.... I would tell you that he is a conduit of epic proportions! Taking originals and putting in the time, effort, and incredible talent to recreate pieces of art from some of the timeless legends in our hobby. I consider him a master in his own right, though I’m certain he would stubbornly disagree. I was gifted this beautiful 11x14 piece of gory glory (originally a work of art by the late Bernie Wrightson) a few weeks back. USPS cracked the frame so I had to find a replacement before I could post this wondrous work. The detail is incredible, he credits his inspiration to insomnia... if that be the case, I hope you never sleep again Raph! (Totally kidding of course ) I am humbled to own this piece, and it will go up on my wall of wonders right next to my Wrightson OA, in its Wright-ful spot! Thank you, Slab! For #TornUpTuesday I decided to feature one of the rare survivors from a simple leak that went undetected for over a year. It saturated the back of my boxes 15 across and stacked 6 high. I lost 15 long boxes of comics that was the foundation including 4 long boxes of golden age comics and 90% of my silver age comics. And It could've been much worse. I went through and salvaged what I could and saved a mere dozen comics out of thousands. It was tragic and I'll never be able to replace even 1 of them but I look forward instead now and enjoy giving what remains to people who will enjoy and care for them. That's the real secret behind my giveaways. Losing them so wastefully still hurts, but i truly learned from it. Now i preserve what's left and spread them out worldwide for others to appreciate. Truly #comickarma it its purest sense. And it validates my comic collecting over 40 years! And eases the needless loss of my treasured memories. Before I get to today’s pick ups I have to take a minute to talk about this book. I’ve wanted it for a long time but stuff always got in the way. I saw it at @gothamunderground a month or so ago and asked about it a few times. But the time was never right to pull the trigger. Bought other books instead or didn’t have enough scratch. Story of a comic collectors life I suppose. So today I walked into the shop and Matt, the owner, said I had a gift under the shop tree. I grabbed it and opened it with the normal savagery with which a child opens a present. And inside was this book. An Instagram post can’t properly convey the gratitude I have for this gift but know that my gratitude is equal to or greater than my overwhelming financial debt. .
