"I always wanted to do something special ever since I saw my older sister spend time making different samples of buildings. I would follow her around, trying to help her with projects. From that moment, I realized I was interested in doing architecture. Like my sister, I pursued a degree in Architecture. Was in love with it so much, I went back for a Masters. All of my professors really pushed me. “You have good skills! You just need to work!” And so I did. But the reality of working at an architecture firm was not what I expected. I am a creative person, but my ideas and voice were not welcomed. I was constantly shut down and judged because of my clothes, beliefs, and gender. I do not want an office job! I want to express myself creatively! I want to go to the buildings, see them, and touch them! Feelings constrained creatively and physically to my desk despite my high qualifications, I decided to make a change in my life by continuing my education in Canada. Canada was heaven. My mother was right. Canada looked like heaven. All the trees, the different colours, the animals…EXCEPT for the mosquitoes here. They are little monsters! But at the same time, I was feeling lonely and scared. I am so far from my home and I don’t have anybody here. I don’t have anything here. I left the little things that made life comfortable and familiar. I miss my car. Everything was so new. It was a big change, going somewhere alone. I thought, “if I die here, no one is coming for me”. Rumi is very special to me. I felt his words while living in Canada. I read his poems when I want to find inner strength in the moments I feel the most alone, in the moments I want to be connected to home. I came into the EAS program first when I came to Conestoga. I was shocked! I studied hard and had really good grades. And thanks to that, I already graduated with honors in Project Management at Conestoga College, and now going into Environmental Building Science!" Conestoga’s Cambridge campus, home to college’s School of Engineering and Information Technology, welcomed its first cohort of students back in 2011. ⁣ ⁣ The 260,000 square-foot building houses innovative technology labs, a welding shop, and the Craig Richardson Institute of Food Processing Technology (IFPT).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The campus was built with a focus on the sustainable use of energy and materials to reduce waste and carbon, and was awarded LEED silver certification by the Canada Green Building Council.⁣⁣ The property also features a newly installed solar panel field, which will help reduce the college’s greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent. #ConestogaCollege
