This is a potable water main, not a sewer main ♂️ Corrosion of iron pipes in a distribution system can cause three distinct but related problems.

First, pipe mass is lost through oxidization to soluble iron species or iron-bearing scale.
.
Second, the scale can accumulate as large tubercles (as shown in ) that increase head loss and decrease water capacity.
.
Finally, the release of soluble or particulate iron corrosion-byproducts to the water decreases its aesthetic quality and often leads to consumer complaints of “red water” at the tap.

La corrosión por abrasión, los poliductos en su largos recorridos desde los pozos petroleros hasta las plantan de procesado y almacenamiento, se encuentran sometidos a muchos factores que dañan el recubrimiento, aunentando el proceso de corrosión, en este casó el recubrimiento de pintura que protege de la corrosion, fue afectado por un por cause de agua de lluvia, que desenterro la tuberia, y por abracion de los impacto de las rocas y arena arrastrados por el aguan en tiempo de lluvia, desgataron el recubrimiento de pintura dejándolo sin protección pasiva, aun cuando continua protegido por las corrientes impresas suministradas por los rectificafores de proteccion catódica, estos no la protegen de las bacteria silfatos reductores que puedan atacar con mas facilidad la tuberia.
