In her book Big Magic one of my favorite authors, Elizabeth Gilbert, talks about a moment in this work where the creative stars align and it’s almost as if the work is guided by a power greater than ourselves- this friends, is a big magic moment. ⠀ ⠀ Now, I’m a pretty realistic person and I don’t come across too many moments in my everyday life that I’d describe as magic, but friends, I’m here to tell you those big magic moments exist. I know because a few weekends ago, I had one. ⠀ ⠀ I had drawn this line work illustration back in January for practice where it’s sat untouched-tucked away in a dusty file on my laptop. But then a few weekends ago on a whim I opened it up and decided to start playing around with placing the illustrations over photos just for fun to experiment, play, and get ideas flowing for Kindled and Kindred’s brand refresh.⠀ ⠀ Friends, hand to God, I laid the illustration over this image and it was, literally, a perfect match. And because I like to test my luck I went ahead and slid in the new ‘K’ I had recently crafted- again, a perfect match, they fit together like puzzle pieces. ⠀ There they were, three pieces of work made months apart suddenly sat before me in perfect unison. If that isn’t big magic, I don’t know what is. ⠀ ⠀ Moral of the story: creativity can be tricky, frustrating, and elusive, but I believe in my gut she wants to play with us and even show us her magic when we’re open to receiving it.
