Photo of the day - How sweet are Your words to my taste! No Bibles were harmed during the making of this project! I know I'll get that question, so I wanted to address that at the beginning. There are many passages in the Bible that talk about eating the very words of God. Psalm 119:103 says God's Word is sweet. Jeremiah 15:16 says the prophet ate the Word and it was joyful and delighted his heart. So I wanted to create a unique piece of art that showed someone eating the words of God. Of course, those passage aren't referring to physically eating paper and ink. It's referring to consuming His Word and being sustained by them. We need God's Word as much as we need physical food. All in all this was a fun project, and very little photoshop. Everything was pretty much done in camera. I used an old book from the thrift store as the prop, because I did not want to actually chop up a real Bible. “Go and sin no more.” A phrase Jesus said that is often left out when mentioning the story of the woman caught in adultery. How much is that like us as a people, to focus on everything we desire to hear, but skip over those “hard to hear” parts of the Word of God? ⁣ ⁣ But is that an excuse for us? “I’m a sinner, you’re a sinner, so let’s just do what we do best—sin.” No. Using the fall of man as a plan for the future of man is never where the Christian receives mercy. ⁣ ⁣ I can see the scene now... the woman caught and exposed, knowing the wages of sin equals her death according to the law. As she kneels face down to the ground, with her eyes full of the hunger of redemption, ashamed of her current state—not proud of it, and there, she finds grace. Grace is not a means to sin, and boast as Paul says, “God forbid.” But grace enables us to run from sin, to turn away and to turn another way. This is repentance. ⁣ ⁣ Though we live in a culture that embraces sin as a badge of honor, saying, “we are not perfect, so why try?” “Do not judge, look the other way.” The difference between the woman caught in adultery, the theif on the cross, the woman at the well, is they recognized their wrong— their need, and had a change of mind and direction and in doing so, received mercy. ⁣ ⁣ (John 5:14) Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."
