Talk to people who believe that the milk they drink is hormone-free? Well, the Canadian dairy industry can no longer promote this mistruth because all milk has hormones in it. "Like all mammalian milk, cow milk is intended to promote rapid growth in babies, helping calves to gain up to 80 pounds per month. Milk contains naturally occurring growth hormones to help accomplish this. Milk also contains high levels of estrogen and progesterone, because on modern dairy farms, cows are kept in a state of near-constant pregnancy to ensure continued lactation. Most milk comes from pregnant cows. The Dairy Farmers of Canada ad claiming Canadian milk contains zero growth hormones is false, which violates advertising standards. It is appropriate that the ads have been pulled.” We link to our post at veganstreet.com/dailymeme-3-1-19.html

Dairy farmers, I know certain farm protocols are set in place “for a reason” I know you separate the calves from their mothers after birth, for a reason. I know disbudding (or dehorning) is done, for a reason. I know you house the cows primarily indoors, for a reason. I know the cows live on cement, for a reason. I know the metal bars containing the cows are there, for a reason. I know you choose to artificially inseminate the cows, for a reason. I know you sell the baby boys, for a reason. I know the cow’s are sent to slaughter, for a reason. That reason is to provide for your family and supply food & drink products to the masses. There are endless ways that we can earn an income these days, however, is cow’s milk necessary for humans? Can we survive and live happily & healthfully without cow’s milk? If so, why are we still doing all of the above mentioned? Is the production & consumption of cow’s milk contributing to the improvement of our human population or the health of our planet? These are questions I had to ask myself when I still consumed dairy products. Farmers, I am not against you. Farming animals, and consuming dairy, has become extremely normalized in our society. I get it. But the farming of animals is only becoming less & less acceptable. I want farmers to be successful and to provide for their families, without the use of animals. It IS achievable. More & more animal farmers are switching over to plant farming for a new reason - the world is shifting. Meat, dairy, & eggs are only becoming less-profitable and plant-based diets are steadily increasing worldwide. There are resources and grants available to farmers for this very reason. The Vegan Society can help you every step of the way. I’m not saying it will happen overnight, or be easy, but it WILL be worth it. Sustainably, profitably, and ethically you will only improve. There are so many inspiring stories of countless animal farmers all over the world who have switched over to plant farming. If an animal farmer is reading this, I encourage you to look into their stories and even reach out to those people for insight. Nothing good ever came easy. It is time for us to evolve.

Good animal care starts with a good relationship with your veterinarian. Our farm is so blessed to work with the Dana, Graham & Steve at Farm Animal Hospital in Leduc. They have taught me so much and being a nurse I just love learning new skills. Last week they taught me how to start and IV on a cow, and test for ketones using a blood meter. They have also taught me how to diagnose twisted stomachs by listening to a cows abdomen with a stethoscope. I find it fascinating! Cow health is a passion of mine and I’m so greatful for our vets for teaching me how to keep our girls happy and healthy. Happy cows = a happy farmer! #oldredbarnleduc #lifeofadairyfarmer #meetyourfarmer #knowyourfarmer

BREAKING: @DairyFarmersofCanada ads falsely claiming no growth hormones present in Canadian milk have been removed after complaints filed by advocates with the assistance of Animal Justice! (Swipe right to see the ad) We were SHOCKED when we learned of a dairy industry transit ad campaign attempting to dupe Canadians into believing that Canadian milk is hormone-free, when it contains IGF-1, a naturally occurring growth hormone present in all cow’s milk, designed to rapidly grow a newborn calf into a thousand pound adult. After it was brought to our attention by concerned citizens, we were quick to help the public file complaints to Ad Standards on the basis of false advertising. We’re so pleased that the deceitful ad campaign was removed and that it would no longer mislead Canadians! It’s clear that Big Dairy is feeling the heat from its loss of profits and failing reputation. Compassionate consumers are increasingly choosing plant-based milks, which are kinder to animals, healthier for our bodies, and better for the environment! . Before I was vegan I used to get bloating and inflammation after I would consume dairy. Since I’ve ditched dairy I’ve found it way easier to keep my waist trim. Because the consumption of dairy is so normalized, and the marketing of dairy is misleading without much regulation, many people dont think twice about the absurdity of consuming another mammals breast milk - Breast milk that contains hormones specifically meant to grow a small calve into a massive animal. As human mammals, we are not meant to consume dairy after we finish breastfeeding and many of us are lactose intolerant without even realizing it. In Canada, dairy farmers were recently forced to remove misleading ads claiming that Canadian milk has no growth hormones. This deceitful campaign is not the first of its kind. In 2016, Dairy Farmers of Canada partnered with health agencies to run ads suggesting that daily dairy consumption was necessary for good health. In fact, dairy is not a necessary part of the human diet and can in fact have adverse health effects @animaljustice_ - There is a strong association between dairy lactose and ischemic heart disease. - There is a clear association between milk consumption and bladder, prostate, colorectal, and testicular cancers. - Dairy fat is loaded with various toxins and is the primary source of a high exposure to dioxin in the US.- Dioxin is a highly toxic chemical compound that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency admits is a prominent cause of cancer in those people that consume dairy fat such as butter and cheese. - There is ample evidence implicating dairy consumption as a causative factor in both prostate and ovarian cancer. - In April 2000 the Physicians’ Health Study reported that having 2.5 servings of dairy each day boosted prostate cancer risk by more than 30 percent. - A multicountry analysis of hip-fracture incidence and dairy product consumption found that milk consumption has a high statistical association with higher rates of hip-fractures. - Osteoporosis tends to occur in countries where calcium intake is highest from dairy products - (Excerpt from “Eat to Live” by @joelfuhrmanmd DM for the sources to this research )
