Six more photos of the stunning Church of the Resurrection inside the Catherine Palace at Tsarskoye Selo, painted in a striking ‘prussian blue’ and offset by gilt-wood carvings. The church has only just reopened after an intensive four year restoration programme following damage inflicted during World War II. I can’t wait to visit Tsarskoye Selo again later this year and see it for myself! The church was originally constructed around 1748 by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli for the Empress Elizabeth and, until the Second World War, the beautiful interior retained its original appearance almost unaltered. The church originally contained 114 icons in carved and gilded frames as well as magnificent ceiling paintings but following the damage and looting during the War little survived (of the 97 extant icons for instance only 3 survived). Dans le cabinet turc du comte d’Artois au Temple à Paris et au château de Versailles. Ce mobilier fut probablement dessiné par Boullée (l'architecte des nouveaux appartements du palais prieural, résidence parisienne du comte d’Artois), fut réalisé Georges Jacob et sculpté par Rode. Ils était alors peint en "blanc de roi", garnis d'un lampas jaune et blanc. La dorure que l'on voit aujourd'hui semble avoir été ajoutée au tout début du XIXe, lors du passage du mobilier au Luxembourg. Après cela il disparut avant d'être lègué au Louvre en 1965. La garniture fut retissée d'après un tissu d'époque contemporaine de l'original. Les glands, festons et franges furent reproduits à l'identique. Cette abondance du drapé de la garniture évoque les tentes des sultans. Sur cette même photo on aperçoit une table-console réalisée en 1780 pour les appartements du comte d’Artois à Versailles par Jacob, une petite table à écrire de Riesener, une paire de Cassolettes et de candélabres XVIIIe provenant des appartements de l’impératrice Eugénie dans le palais des Tuileries.
