When I read all of the supportive, kind and accepting comments on our posts here, it helps me to believe that people like Ruby, who have disabilities and differences, truly are accepted in this world. But the truth is, when we go out into the “real world”, we don’t always experience the same level of love and acceptance we enjoy here in our online community. Ruby is stared at, by children and adults alike, sometimes for an uncomfortably long amount of time. People point at her and tell the person they are with to look at her. They whisper and laugh while staring at her. Ruby doesn’t have a clue this is happening, but I’m not going to lie—I always notice and it hurts my heart when it does. I wish these people would just come up and say hello, so they could get to know how awesome Ruby is, but that’s a very rare occurrence. While these experiences could cause me to want to retreat and shield Ruby from the world, they actually help me to see that we still have SO much work to do in normalizing disabilities and differences, so that everyone feels welcome, accepted and included in our world. So today, I’m wondering if you’d do me a favor and tag a friend in the comments who doesn’t follow us, so they can meet Ruby and learn about our mission of #acceptance #kindness and #inclusion ? This community has already made the world so much better, but I know we can do even more. We love you guys! ♥️ #tagafriend #disabilityinclusion #disabilityawareness #disabilityisnotinability #disability #disabilities #disablednotless #raregemruby

PT. 2 OF KERMITS ADOPTION APPEAL Some of the cases that we come across break our hearts into tiny little pieces. Not because they were abused badly but because of the extreme neglect and apathy they have suffered. Kermit is a 1.7 year old St. Bernard who was given up to us after being convinced by a neighbour that the owners were not doing him justice. For the first two weeks after coming to us, Kermit didn’t come out from his kennel. He would bark at anyone walking by, wander out a couple of feet from his kennel to relieve himself and the rush back in. Initially we thought this was fear but after watching him closely, we realised that yes, it was fear but it was being caused by an an underlying reason we would never have expected. Kermit is blind which is something a lot of dogs can deal with brilliantly. But Kermit was never given the chance to adapt to his blindness. He spent his entire 1.7 years tied up in the same place. He never learnt how to use his other senses to navigate himself. As a result anything new would scare the life out of him. Once we figured this out, we started working with him to build his confidence. Initially, if he lost track of the person holding the leash, he would just bolt in whichever direction, sometimes hurting himself. Slowly, he learned to wait for one of us to pick up the leash and guide him the right way. Kermit has come leaps and bounds from the first day he came to the center. He’s more confident and now understands love and cuddles. While our first choice for the St.Bernards have always been estates or farms in hill stations, for Kermit, we actually need a home with defined boundaries. He cannot be a dog left out to wander and explore by himself. So for Kermit, we are opening adoptions to any person or family that is willing to put in the time and effort for him to help him learn to cope with his blindness. If you think you can do justice to Kermit, please whatsapp only on 9902087276 OR 8296442401 only and we will get back to you! #adoptdontshop #stbernardsofinstagram #disablednotless#adoptashelterdog

This week has taught me so much. I mean I knew that in tough times you could rely on your close girlfriends. I expected I could rely on other women I knew to help me out too. But what I never saw coming was the mass outpouring and love shown by thousands of women I’d never met or even interacted with. The actions on instagram this week have taught me that women really are such a mighty force. Stronger together than apart. Marks and Spencer gate had a really ironic twist thanks to some amazing women. Who would have thought that the very business discriminating against disabled people by refusing to provide changing places would be the reason that so much awareness would be raised about the need for them! BIG thanks to @clemmie_telford @mother_pukka @weeslice @susiejverrill @thatmumwithcancer for kicking off the ball that kept rolling and rolling this week! You guys have helped over 13,000 people understand this is a massive problem! That’s 13,000 people that never knew kids were laying on dirty toilet floors! And thank you to everyone else who also shared, shouted and helped to raise awareness. The battle has only just begun but I know with you guys behind us we can change the world (and it’s loos!) #Dearmarksandspencer it’s ironic that you’ve actually helped the changing places campaign considering your refusal to install them! - unknown source let me know if it’s you and I’ll tag you in x . . . . . #mumsofinsta #womensupportingwomen #womenempowerment #womenarepowerful #powerofinstagram #changingplaces #changetheworld #mumsofig #morethanamutha #morethanamum #specialneedsparenting #disablednotless

My friend is KILLING IT!!! This is what Cerebral Palsy looks like... #CerebralPalsyCan #MotivationalMonday ‍♀️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Repost from @able.body using @RepostRegramApp - It’s not the weight that’s heavy, it’s the balance that’s throwing me off. Typical #CPproblems, what are you going to do. ‍♀️ • When I try to jump up with the weight, my feet cramp up, and can’t quite “flex” the way you’re supposed to, and point the toe. Oh well. ‍♀️♿️ • I know I’m going slow—it’s on purpose because I’m literally thinking on how to force my body to do all these things and cooperate all at once, dangit! ♿️‍♀️ • Notice the following exercises; I’m much more stable. But it’s a good thing that @jamiejoyce2 forces us to move forward with new stuff—moves us out of the comfort zone! • #Spastic #Spasticity #WeightLift #Weights #Lifting #LiftWeights #LiftingWeights #WeightTraining #DisabledWorkout #WorkOut #WorkingOut #Disability #Disabled #DisabilityPride #DifferentNotLess #DisabledNotLess #ScarredNotScared #CerebralPalsy #CP #CPAwareness #OverheadPress #Handicap #Handicapped #CerebralPalsyAwareness #CerebralPalsyAlliance #CPAwareness #CrossFit
