HEADS UP ➡️ We saw a post from @xxldesignerpitbulls where she shows that her post of a Golden attacking a smaller dog was deleted by Instagram. The whole purpose of the post was to educate people on the fact that absolutely ANY Dog can react or exert damage on another dog and to pin point the REACTION that an owner SHOULD have towards a fight in order to stop it! The video shows a clueless owner using a harness and doing just about NOTHING as she watched her dog holding on to another dog (HARNESSES are intended to make dogs Pull! They give NO Control!) . She asked for our opinion and the fact is I agree with her post as it was intentionally posted to educate people on how to stop a fight. She mentioned three techniques which I think are worth highlighting: 1. CHAIN COLLAR, any big dog should use a chain collar just as a tool. In a fight, choking a dog will help him let go of the bite. The tool can help you in an emergency to help the dog let go. 2. Break stick: I think its common in the US although its not common here in my country. It can be a useful tool in a case like this. 3. I personally have seen that lifting the legs without pulling them apart yet making them loose balance can help some dogs let go at a specific point, although it can sometimes take a while. - Any of you have a technique that have worked? . . Another thing that I MUST HIGHLIGHT here is WHY BSL is SO WRONG! Its not about the breed and its again proven that any big dog can cause damage or react. Dogs are animals and owners SHOULD have the ability and sufficient knowledge to control their dogs and know them in detail to be able to anticipate to their body language before they react. And again, its not a matter of breed, its a matter of RESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP! I don’t recommend it to first time owners or even to some experienced owners unless they are sure that they can choose wisely in between different energy levels and individual character. How did Boss and Zeus’s relationship worked out? Boss is extremely alpha and he does not accept other males in the house (he can even have issues with alpha males outside the house if challenged) however Zeus was allowed to stay with us because he was the most submissive pup of the litter. He is calm, low energy, and will respect Boss at all times. Despite all this considerations, we still had to neuter Zeus because we did have an initial scuffle when Zeus started to mature and hence neutering him allowed him to mean no challenge to Boss. I didn’t ask the dogs to pose for this video. I turned around and saw this heartwarming scene play out. I take the dogs out in two shifts in the morning so I can keep track of everyone and clean up the yard right away to avoid a dog poop minefield. This morning Susie planted herself in the sun so I left her to soak in the rays while the second shift of dogs were out. Susie is the oldest of our current dog group. Gina came next. From the minute they met they formed a very special bond. While their friendship has been somewhat diluted by the addition of so many other dogs they obviously still have a strong connection with each other. With a dog group of seven it is interesting to see how their own individual relationships form. Dean was next in. He is very tight with Susie and Annie. I feel so lucky to have dogs who genuinely love each other. Dog or Baby? That’s the question raised by a message I got re the video of Piggy in his stroller yesterday. Obviously Piglet is a dog! He is also tiny, deaf, and blind. He enjoys taking walks with the other dogs and he also enjoys riding in his stroller while they take a long and fast walk he could never do. It also offers him protection from the sun when we are out on sunny afternoons. Piglet’s stroller gives him a safe comfortable place to relax when we travel and attend stressful events. It also gives him a chance to get some fresh air when the other dogs are taking their walks. And the stroller allows me to give my other dogs the attention they need while including the tiny Pink Man. When I first considered purchasing a stroller for Piglet I was worried that I was becoming completely ridiculous- over the top looney! In fact, our dog stroller is one of my best dog product decisions ever! So, for everyone online and in my neighborhood who laughs, calls me crazy, and thinks they know better, I have a happy tiny special needs dog who knows he is part of a very kind and inclusive family. I offer him a way to be part of our family regardless of his limitations.
