During the darker half of the year, my flame burns a bit brighter. I feel the most content and inspired when the leaves begin to change color and fall to the earth. I feel that all is right with the world, i feel inspired, and look forward to glowing jack o lanterns and the first snow, to the bare trees, ghostly visitors, and strings of lights decorating houses. Oddly enough, I’m pretty miserable at the end of spring and all throughout summer, and often wish we could somehow skip it. I find it completely oppressive and un-fun. It’s too damn hot, too damn sunny, and there are too many people outside, haha. I know I sound crazy, but I’ve felt that way my entire life. Have you ever heard a kid throw a tantrum because she didn’t want to go to a water park in July? I was that kid. I wanted to stay inside the air conditioned house, read, and wait until the sun went down before I went outside to catch fireflies. So I have to remind myself of the great things about the summer, the flowers and warmth, hazy pink sunsets, new life, ocean wind, and green forests. I have to remind myself that autumn is on the way, and that if all of those trees didn’t go through a beautiful bloom, I couldn’t see their beautiful deaths. So when you’re feeling sad, and oppressed by the gloom of shorter days and gray skies, watch the way leaves dance in the breeze as they fall, or how snow sparkles under street lights. Look for red cardinals on frosty tree branches, fill your space with twinkling lights, read ghost stories by candlelight, bake cookies, and drink wine by the fire. Summer will come, the wheel of the year will keep spinning and balance the dark with light . What do you think of this time of year?
