LONDON MARATHON! I took this video of Sir Mo last year, when I went to see the marathon and support my friend @martian_to_triathlete. I cycled from my house in Hersham and back. It was a very hot day, so tomorrow looks a lot kinder!

ON ROLE MODELS:
no matter what level of “influence” or what platform we are given, we are all looked up to, by someone. some, of course, more than others have a duty to present themselves as good role models.
for me, especially in this “running/fitness community” built via, instagram, in person, at events and races—both amateur and pro athletes, I see this as a huge privilege to have a voice, but also a duty to choose your words wisely.
•yes running makes you hungry, but eating is not something you have to “earn” via miles. yes bRUNch away, but again, you don’t NEED to “earn” it by running more. but yes, when you run a lot—replenish!!! enjoy foods that make you feel good. whatever that means for you. there’s no right or wrong way to eat as a runner.
•running is a great way to gain fitness and cardiovascular health. you are not defined (as a person or a runner) by a body fat percentage. if body building is something you’re into, that’s cool.
•please don’t fat or skinny shame anyone.
•strong can be measured but is also a feeling
•fitness is not a certain body fat percentage, bmi, number on the scale. we get fitter when we work hard and are consistent. how do you feel? do you feel fit? it’s entirely individual.
•using the word “fatter” (or anything like that) to describe yourself is not ok. we shouldn’t (male or female) talk about our bodies this way. people look up to us and read these things. these are trigger words.
•pace is personal. celebrate everyone’s victories and “easy” and “hard” is different for everyone. so is “fast” and “slow.” be careful what you say about your own “successes” and “failures.”
• we should all lift each other up. because at the end of the day, we’re hard enough on ourselves.
