Things I learned from “externing” for less than a week : ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Just roll with the punches and be a sponge. Do your best to absorb the medicine you’re observing BUT ALSO the communication that’s being done between clients, employees, etc. You’ll learn so much and pick out things you like/dislike or want to implement/avoid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2️⃣ Try to think like a doctor. REALLY HARD TO DO but I tried to put myself in their . Think about what differentials, tests, treatments, etc you’d implement for a given patient ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3️⃣ ASK “DUMB” QUESTIONS. Jk there’s no such thing as dumb questions (right?) so ask away. I have a hard time remembering drugs and MOA so I probably asked 100x about them. Day 3 of externship... nothing is as I expected it to be. I’m being pushed beyond what I thought I could handle, learning more than I ever thought I could grasp in one day, but I’m doing it. It’s a crazy feeling to be working an 8-5 every day. Being out of touch with the rest of the world and especially doing something that affects so many people every day as well as yourself. I’m scared of the unknown, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. On Friday I’ll be the only MA in the office with a full back to back schedule on my first week there but I’m not backing down
