This summer I will be joining @collaction_org on their @slowfashionseason . It’s 3-months of no new clothes from June 21st to September 21st. You’re allowed to swap, borrow and shop second hand, just no brand new items. I’m taking it a step further by only allowing myself 3 “new to me” pieces since I mostly already shop secondhand. . At the end of June I’m leaving my day job to pursue growing my stationery business @lindostationery while I job search for opportunities in my career field. It’s a daunting task, yet I think the Slow Fashion Season will help me prioritize my pursuits and not be distracted by all the pretty things out there. . Honestly, sustainable fashion used to mean something completely different to me five years ago... even three years ago. My business is founded on the idea, but I used to shy away from the word. Cus fashion is something gut felt and sexy. And the word sustainable fashion was not. I thought I had to trick people into buying better as “sustainable” seamed to instantly turn people of. At least that was my feeling about it. Well... it has changed. It makes me so happy. The deep story a product carries is now a big part of its identity. And a piece made without consciousness has lost its shine. Let’s celebrate that ❤️ #jfcurated loves you all.

Nothing explains my views on fast fashion more than this quote. Somehow we think that as soon as we buy a fast fashion item (either in store or second hand) that it automatically makes it disposable. I have “fast fashion” items in my wardrobe that I’ve had for almost half a decade and they’re still going strong. . And yes, I will always advocate for a transparent supply chain, circular economy, better work conditions + wages, and all that good stuff that very much tints the fashion industry. But if we’re going to be conscious consumers let's not consume above our means…even if that consumption is labeled as “slow” or “conscious” or “sustainable.” We’re just using labels to justify our consumption. . That’s why I love accounts like @notbuyingnew (sorry for tagging you out of the blue!) as it inspires me to see people making do with what they have and making #rewear the norm. And that’s beyond amazing.
