The clear skies last weekend had me hunting for a less photographed dark site. I had already been to Church Doors cove that at sunrise and hadn’t planned on returning here, but in a chance conversation with @alynwallace I opened up @photopills to find the planner still open from that morning, still pinned on this location. Right there I could see that the Milky Way core would rise directly in front of the cove and in an instant my plan was set. • A quick google of night sky images from here returned absolutely no results. I wondered if I had overlooked some kind of major flaw, but as it’s not been done before I thought it was worth a shot. • On getting down to the cove I was blown away! High cliffs shielded the whole area from light pollution and Jupiter was already glowing brightly in front, lighting up the sea with its reflection. • I spent a couple of hours down here, partly shooting and partly just taking it all in. Not another soul around in such a fantastic location, a rare thing in astrophotography these days. And maybe even rarer now its secret it out.
