One facade at a time! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Helsinki Facades [ 499 ] ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Where: Välimerenkatu 9, Jätkäsaari. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who: Arkkitehtitoimisto Jukka Turtiainen Oy, 2012. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why: A splash of modern here on Helsinki Facades! I really like the contrast between the yellow and black facade bricks! Notice that the courtyard side of the building is completely bright green, quite a bold move for Finnish architecture! ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trivia: Jätkäsaari is a former harbour area, which is being converted as a completely new district of Helsinki! There are loads of fancy and playful facades there! I took only a small walk there the. Have a great Sunday! ‍♂️ Here is my favorite new building in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki, a new city district under construction! Architecture by Huttunen-Lipasti-Pakkanen @huttunenlipasti , 2014. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A cool use of fiber concrete as a facade material. The three dimensional facade panels create playful shadows and at the same time work as solar protection for the building! That's some passive design 101. Swipe left to see a close up of the panels! Cool right? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know that this building was the Winner of the Concrete structure of the year of 2014 in Finland. This first shot is the corner of the building towards Sanomatalo, Which I have shared earlier too! Does it remind you of a bow of a ship as well? ️⛵ And look at that seagull there! It was inaugurated on December 5, 2018 and it is located in near Töölönlahti just next to Helsinki Music Centre, Kiasma Museum of contemporary art and the central railway station! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The impressive architectural design is by a Finnish architectural company ALA Architects and even more fascinating structural design is by @rambollfinland ! Did you know that even though the facade is clad in this wooden panel, the structure of the building is made of steel and concrete? One advantage of having a longer lens is that you can spot and also reach neat little details that might be overlooked otherwise! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trivia: Grahn, Hedman and Wasastjerna was a productive Finnish architecture company, which worked from 1892 to 1905. One facade at a time! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Helsinki Facades [ 443 ] ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Where: Hollantilaisentie 11, Munkkiniemi. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who: Eliel Saarinen, 1916. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why: The red brick mansard roof, windows on the roof combined with the simple rendered facade! Plus as an extra I got to visit the building by chance yesterday and see the interior as well! See the other photo as well for the amazing wooden staircase of the building!✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trivia: Did you know that Munkkiniemi's pension house was the one of the last projects by architect Eliel Saarinen in Finland. The pension house and the row houses built on the same street (Hollantilaisentie) were also the only tangible assignments of Saarinen following the great city plan of Munkkiniemi-Haaga, which he formed in 1915. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The modern pension building, representative of the Central European Jugendclassism, was able to operate in its original occupation for only a few years until it was redeemed to bankruptcy and converted into a Cadet School. As a Cadet school, it worked until 1940, after which it was made the Air Force Headquarters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After this period it worked as a educational building and it was used as offices and conventional purposes.
