There are levels to everything. .

First Slide (most recent): progressive loading is a necessary component of mobility work. .
Second Slide: challenging the brain to coordinate ranges. .
Third Slide: month’s ago when I raised the height challenge by changing the height of the Yoga Blocks. .
Fourth Slide: first time completing swimmers after lots of work on my shoulder to stabilize and clear pain. .

A year and a half ago I couldn’t Internally Rotate my right shoulder without severe pain. .
.
I always reflect on the first conversation I had with @hunterfitness at the @functionalrangeconditioning cert in 2017. I was inflamed and when I did Shoulder CARs I couldn’t pass IR without severe pain. His advice was to avoid inflaming it more but to hit them CARs #everydamnday as @drandreospina had just finished drilling into my skull for hours. Hunter had demo’d this at the Seminar and I thought no way I could do this.

I got back home and found a crew to roll with that shared overlapping values and perspectives about human movement and training, including @dr.joey_doo @dr._jmorept who I work closely with at @progressivemotionpt and @nat_a_what who I now consider one of my best homies and my co-conspirator on @theupgradeguys - all of these dudes played some part in brainstorming and making moves that improved my shoulder. .

Since FRC I’ve read countless books on pain science, mindset and I read tons of articles on shoulders, spine, scapular stability and sports performance. This has all influenced and informed my own training, my coaching of clients, my workshops and my life. .
.
This is just the beginning of the race with myself to deliver the highest degree of workshops, seminars and coaching on the planet. We will not be stopped. .

My goal has been to inspire and change the lives of others utilizing human movement as a conceptual through-line for change. It’s bigger than “fitness”. I believe that over the next 10 to 20 years we will discover a deeper why to all of this. These discoveries will move humans in a new direction and we will discover so much more of our Brain’s potential and capacity. .

Don’t just speed through these movements, slow them down and really learn how to control each position.
After all, mobility is all about control

Want to improve hip rotation

Lots of people tell me they struggle to maintain any hip internal rotation gains they make from doing 90/90 mobility work. ♂️

Often this can be down to a lack of strength in two very important areas:
➖
1. The adductors
2. The psoas muscles
➖
So here are two really good ways to strengthen these muscles using a band. They are super simple, effective and should be done regularly as part of your warm up, and more intensely as part of your training program! ♀️

If you’re not sure how to get into hip sleeper stretch position, check out my previous post which details this. And for banded hip flexion, make sure your pelvis doesn’t rotate ❌ as you flex your hip.

I decided to change things up and did a combination of 3 exercises here.
I blocked myself against the stallbar so i was not able to move (compensate) at all! My knee was always in line with my hips laterally for the extra challenge! Give that a try !

I did these for 2 Sets with 2 Reps

Mobility training is exactly that- TRAINING. It is challenging. It will make you sweat. It won’t always feel good. But it will change your body like nothing else.
I’ve never been able to do a pistol squat until yesterday. I have my consistent Kinstretch/ mobility practice to thank for that. I’ve tried for years to do a pistol squat just because they look cool. Now I actually can! Seriously, this stuff is legit.
I used to think passive stretching and yoga would make me more flexible ❌ NOPE. It feels a lot better than Kinstretch but it really didn’t do anything for mobility or flexibility. Yoga is great for what it was originally intended for. However, our society has turned it into a workout or the answer for “tight muscles.” I’m not saying don’t do yoga. I’m just saying don’t expect crazy mobility gains from yoga. If you want better joints practice #kinstretch
