Since I prune my fruit trees to keep them at a small and manageable size, thinning the fruit is a must.
Thinning is the process of reducing the amount of fruits you allow to form on the tree. Thinning increases fruit size, quality, and helps prevent branches from breaking.
Peaches are thinned to have around 4” spacing in between fruits for optimal growth. If you don’t thin your fruit there’s a chance you will have small, dry peaches.
Why would you do all the work of spraying the tree, applying compost and properly pruning the tree to forget to do something as simple as thinning the fruit?
1. Don't be afraid to thin!
2. Don’t do everything correctly for your fruit tree , and not something easy as thinning✌
Also, I try not to miss an opportunity to get a little extra learning in the garden with my kids.

DAY 88 HOME GROWN ONLY These red Jaboticabas are such a bonus right now - our black Jaboticaba bears fruit in November so that's when we were expecting this one to fruit. Maybe it will fruit then too! The red ones look really similar to the black ones until you hold them in the sunlight - then you see the beautiful red glow! Jaboticaba is an easy care, decorative and of course tasty shrub.

Hello May Possibly my favourite thing to do of an evening, after putting the kids to bed is go out and have a wander in the garden. The new grass seed has grown really well, the apple blossoms are still around, the veg patch is starting to look like an actual veg patch, as opposed to a neglected piece of dirt It’s all starting to come together. We still have a very long way to go, but progress is progress and we have only been here 6 months (we are also renovating the house) so I’ll definitely take it! Always awesome to come on here and see everyone else’s gardens and allotments and the amount of work and love put into them. Keep on inspiring you guys! ❤️

In Houston we are in the Sun belt, which is an amazing ideal area that extends from California to Florida.
This area produces amazing citrus. So, if you ask me, living in Houston or the surrounding areas, citrus trees should be the first fruit tree you plant.
Follow these steps and you’re going to get off on the right foot or left foot whichever you prefer.
1. Scout the area and identify where you want to plant. Citrus needs full sun for optimal production. Try to avoid planting underneath trees, next to walkways or fences. I know I’m planting mine by a fence, but it’s cool I will prune and train it to grow towards the middle of the yard.
2. Dig a hole wider than the container and 1 inch shallower than the rootball depth. Keep the soil you remove from the hole.
3. Place some mycorrhizae in the hole to help with root development like @plantsuccessorganics
4.Remove tree from the pot and place in the ground
5. Backfill the hole with the dirt half way and water the tree
6. Fill the rest of the hole with the dirt and tamp the soil into place.
7. Build a watering ring around the tree wider than the planting hole. Add compost
8. Stake the tree if necessary
9. Water
