They look kind of similar, don‘t they? »Seascape« (1969) by Gerhard Richter might appear as a photograph, but is actually painted. The idea behind this painting was almost identical with the concept of Gustave Courbet’s artwork we posted yesterday. Both works focus on detaching themselves from anything figurative and concrete, working only with the effect of certain shades of grey and the way the color is applied onto the canvas.
