I decided to take the Panther out for some “off roading” today. Overall the Panther seems to do pretty well driving but has a huge power to weight problem that I have not figured out yet. The beast weighs around 10 lbs and is only being powered by 2 XL power function motors. There is also no room in the tank to add any more motors without interfering with the suspension or compromising the structural integrity. I am about halfway done with the instructions on Stud.io and planning on finishing them at the end of April. Panther with new muzzle brake! I recently bought the new @brickarms muzzle brakes for some of my vehicles and I must say: they are awesome! At first I thought if it's not "legal" to use those custom pieces in Lego models because you can easily build a lego muzzle brake (of course it doesn't look so great) to have that "lego feeling". After I put it on the Panther and was very impressed! It looks now more like a model kit and not so much like a lego model but it's okay. We all use other Brickarms products like helmets, weapons etc. and we are very satisfied with that. The next step that Brickarms did was the introduction of those muzzle brakes and they fit very well into their product line! They also got one for the 76mm gun of the american tanks (M18, M4A1(76)w, etc.) and for the 17pdr gun (Sherman VC Firefly, etc.) If you have not bought them yet you should do it now! This is the 12.8cm Pak 44, classed as a Heavy Anti-Tank gun. Originally it was set to be a field gun to match the Soviet 122mm but with the appearance of the IS-2, it was adapted for the AT role as well. The ammunition has an important part to play in the diversity of this design. It features two-piece ammunition: the projectile and the cartridge. Therefore it could fire three different propellant charges; light, medium and heavy. To use this as an artillery piece you would load the small or medium, but for the devastating AT rounds, a heavy charge would have been loaded. This would fire a 28.3kg round at just under 1km/s. With its Armour-Piercing Capped Ballistic Cap-High Explosive rounds it could penetrate 170mm of armour at 3km range. There are 5 variants of this gun, however the most important of them is the Pak 80 for it was mounted on the Jagdtiger, a famous World War 2 German Tank Destroyer. Meaning “Hunting Tiger” it has been known to have been incredibly devastating. A famous tank ace Otto Carius once stated that a 128mm projectile went through all the walls of a house before obliterating the American tank behind it. Finally, this gun was also planned to be the main gun of the Panzer VIII Maus, and E-100 Super Heavy Tank. It would have been classed as the 12,8cm KwK 44 L/55. Be careful! The Sturer Emil’s main armament was based on the 12.8cm Flak 40, an Anti-Air gun.
