If you’re in your first year of sobriety, hang in there. My first year was a roller coaster with LOTS of changes. How did I get through it? With the 12-step fellowship, spiritual growth, and trying to keep things in twenty-four hour segments (sometimes, it was even hour by hour). Early sobriety can be super hard, but I PROMISE that, if you do the work, there is so much beauty on the other side.

Instant gratification. Something that us addicts know all too much about, right? So it’s hard to convince many of us that, if we stay sober long enough and do the work, life gets sooooo much better. It’s hard to convince us that great things take time and that our recovery is not an overnight job. Honestly, it’s a lifetime job - but one can’t have the urge to stay sober if they don’t abstain from the next drink or drug long enough to see the positive benefits. So just for today, keep going. And remember, don’t give up before the miracle happens. ❤️

I was pushed towards a life of recovery for years before actually wanting it myself. Family members, friends, and even the law all would steer me in that direction. I would always go in dressed with the best intentions but walk out into another relapse. Why? I wasn’t ready and wasn’t willing. Just because I obviously needed to get sober, didn’t mean that I wanted it. After falling flat on my face time and time again, I finally accepted my gift of desperation and decided I wanted something different. In the end, I did it for me and everything and everyone else benefited in the long term. I remain grateful for a life today that is so vastly different from the one I used to live. It’s a great day to be sober.
