دیوار بزرگ چین یکی از قدیمی‌ترین، بزرگ‌ترین و مشهورترین دستاوردهای نبوغ انسان است، با وجود اینکه اکثر افراد عقیده دارند که دیوار چین از فضا قابل مشاهده است و حتی ذکر شده است که این سازه تنها ساخته دست بشر است که از فضا قابل مشاهده است، اما این نظر کاملاً غلط است.
امروزه بقایایی که از دیوار چین به جا مانده در حدود 21 هزار کیلومتر است. البته از این میزان تنها 1900 کیلومتر از دیوار که یک سوم دیوارهای ساخته شده در دوره امپراطوری مینگ است به شکل سالم باقی مانده است.
"دیوار بزرگ چین" مشهورترین نام برای این دیوار است اما برخی آن را “دیوار چین” می‌نامند. اسامی دیگر این دیوار عبارتند از: “دیوار 10000 لی” (واحد اندازه‌گیری در چین و نصف یک کیلومتر)؛ مرز بنفش (به دلیل رنگ آن)؛ اژدهای زمینی؛ و دیوار دراز.
