I have a vivid memory of going to the balloon race launch when I was a kid...had to have been before age 7. We got Krispy Kreme donuts and took a blanket and beach chairs down to the fairgrounds where the launch used to take place. It was magical - and balloonfest has been my favorite @kyderbyfestival event ever since. For the last three years we have gone go the glow or the glimmer at night, but this year my mom and I woke up before dawn and walked a couple of blocks to Bowman Field where the launch takes place these days. It was a PERFECT morning for the launch - maybe even too calm without a breeze (I won’t pretend to know anything about good balloon flying conditions). But the air was clear, the sky was dramatic and colorful, no rain in sight. I’m so glad we woke up to go!! Showing up is always worth it!
