Carrying on from yesterday’s post After returning home from my world tour, I hit what felt like the most unproductive few weeks in a long time. Every action felt like the most immense workload and expectation surrounding it, I couldn’t get a single thing done. Burned out was an understatement, then it all changed. I had received a contract from Cirque du Soleil that I ended up taking, leaving everything behind for 15 months. This was and still is pretty mind blowing for me, I got taken from the pond and thrown into the ocean. I was the smallest fish there but it was exactly where I needed to be, a whole new environment presented brand new challenges and dynamics. Things started to feel incredible after a short bit, even after the first initial excitement of being on stage had turned into this exhilarating love of constantly being in front of an audience. I’ve had great shows and shows where things had not gone so well, but understanding that’s how it goes is important. Six months later I’m waiting surgery to fix my torn TFCC, less than a week to go. Being at IHQ you get the vibe of it being a large family, the people who were apart of your journey at the beginning all show you so much compassion and understanding as they know how hard it is to be there under such conditions. Cirque has taken care of me so well and I have the deepest amount of gratitude for that. This has been the greatest year of my life when it comes to my own personal growth. Should something go wrong, you should do everything possible to keep them from hitting the floor or at the very least softening their fall as much as possible. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Until I started teaching in the US I had never heard the term ‘base spotting’. For me, it was just part and parcel of my role as a base. When your flyer steps up there, they are putting their trust and their faith in you to keep them safe and so you’d better own that. That level of trust is no small deal, so you have to take it seriously. Do not rely on your spotters or mats. Use them by all means, and I encourage you to use them. But know that the flyers safety is in your hands, figuratively and literally. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ You’ll get kicked on the way down. You’ll get hit on the way down. It’s part of it. Them kicking you will hurt you less than the floor would hurt them. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ We had this pretty spicy fall in training, but thanks to our quick instincts @theveganacrobat was absolutely fine. She dusted herself off, and we tried this trick again. With the addition of one more crash mat. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ The only thing she hurt? She said her foot hurt a little and she didn’t know why. Turns out, her foot hurt because she kicked me in the back of the head. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ I have a head like a mountain goat. Fear me.

Time to Heal I’ve officially gotten my surgery done on my left wrist, my TFCC is now cleaned up and on its way to becoming healthy again. During the scope the surgeon also found a partial tear through one of my ligaments, which explains the pinpoint pain I was getting while bearing weight in my hand. This does not add any additional time to my recovery. After two full days of pretty extreme pain, where I was basically pacing back and forth in my room ready to gnaw my arm off, my pain has gone down substantially. After my bandages come off in a week I’ll be in a hard brace for 3 weeks after with no weight bearing in that wrist what so ever. In that time it’s my responsibility to not see this as “time off” but as a time to work on other things, I can still train my cardio, lift weights with my legs and core, work on mobility and my right side strength. There is absolutely no excuse to show up to work out of shape and unprepared to do my job. During the first month off while I have no prescribed Physio I will be spending my time in Windsor at home with my parents until Easter time and then I’ll head over to Los Angeles for two weeks until it’s time to come back to Montreal. Overall my estimated time out of the show will be 12 weeks. It will be a time to create strong new habits that last me a life time. I can be challenged by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it. - A flow @docjenfit and I had fun with! Roller Coaster of Emotions I’ve slipped into a slump quickly. My living space started to resemble my thoughts, stuff all over the floor, every cabinet door open, bed looks like a hurricane hit it, garbage scattered throughout the room. It looks like I let the place go for a month and it had only been 2 days. The negativity that had taken its place in my head really started to take its physical form. Bad eating habits, wasting large amounts of time, and terrible sleep. After posting about my injury yesterday for the first time, there were hundreds of you who had reached out. It was incredibly overwhelming and honestly it began a major shift in my head space. I organized and cleaned my room, I bought healthier food, I made my bed. I made my living a space an area where I foster the fuel to conquer goals. Today, I woke up at a better hour, made my bed, drank my coffee, and crushed a leg work out (Bambi legs ) Im learning these small thoughts and actions really end up building on each other. Positivity and negativity find their fuel inside own head and start to grow in whatever direction I allow them. Very small but consistent actions make the world of difference instead of trying to make a singular life changing decision. Over the next few months Im going to be documenting my journey through all of this. Im going to have some good days and if I’m completely honest with myself right now, im going to have a lot of terrible days. So bare with me if the tone of my page gets a little low from time to time. I feel that level of transparency and vulnerability is essential for me to move forward in a healthy positive direction.
