I often talk about communication and having those hard conversations in your relationships - whether it’s your partner or friend or family member or coworker. Those conversations need to happen! They are a part of life and by avoiding them you often end up lying, unhappy, and molding to fit other people. . For those of us who have been abused, it can be even harder to have those conversations because you convince yourself you’ll be hurt or harmed in some way, of that you’ll be abandoned. The tricky part is that by avoiding, you’re not creating a stable base for your relationship, and you continue perpetuating those scary thoughts and beliefs that it’ll be the end of the world when you bring up something you’re upset about. I can’t tell you how many times I had to spend days or weeks mustering up courage to talk to colin about something I was certain would be the end of our relationship only to be blown away when in fact it made us stronger and more in tune with each other - the complete opposite experience I expected because of my past! Remember that, and remember this quote next time you have something you need to speak on and are feeling worried. Those really good relationships will be supportive and loving no matter what the struggle is.

In the past, it was really difficult for me to form deep bonds of friendship and community in my life. __ I sacrificed a lot of who I am in order to become what I thought people wanted from me. __ I played the game, looked the part, and convinced myself it was enough. __ As many "friends" as I had, I felt like I was wearing a mask 95% of the time. __ And honestly, so much of this was my own victimhood. __ "I always feel different than others." __ "People don't show up for me." __ "I can't connect deeply with people." __ I woke up today filled with gratitude for all of the incredible humans who have been brought into my life over the past two+ years. __ Soul family friends, new friends, biz friends, travel friends, incredible communities, dream clients, collaboration, social media connections.
