Today, was a solid recovery run. Hope everyone is enjoying these early sunrises as much as I am. The beach was empty today, with exception to the local surfers, so it made for a nice final mile. It’s EMS week! I was invited by Dr. Jonathan Berkowitz, the Medical Director of Center for EMS, at @northwellhealth to a very special event.
Pictured you will see 3 out of the 4 EMS crew members (and their supervising Dr.’s) who transported me from our neighborhood Northwell Health Emergency Department to @mountsinai_bethisrael Hospital’s Catheter Lab where I, in fact, got a “second chance.” September 29th, 2018 I sustained by 3rd Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) that included me incurring 2 fatal heart rhythms. I did not post about it then because privacy, rest, healing, and a full recovery was my priority.
Dr. B said today that less than 10% of patients survive cardiac arrest. I have survived 3. One in 2012, two in September. I can’t imagine the % I belong too. I do know that a crew like these men were not just my guardians between an Emergency Department and a Critical Care hospital, they were care givers whose warmth, concern, and quality of care made me feel like we were all part of the same team giving me strength and encouraging me to survive.
To say, “I’m grateful,” is an understatement. What EMS professionals do daily is definitely #beyondthecall and I am eternally grateful and so #honored to be able to see these lifesavers again.
