This has been a good good weekend. We had to change some plans around due to bad weather and also feeling under the weather. • But, hey, those changed plans ended in this view, a once in every 5 years kind of experience. More bear grass blooming before my eyes than I ever imagined possible. • Now I’m sick and laying on the couch binge watching Stranger Things, trying to listen to my body screaming at me to just relax for a few. Traveling as a couple truly tests your love for one another. You aren’t usually your “best self” when you are exhausted, homesick, stressed, or desperately in need of a shower. But oh boy do you learn SO much about each other when your love is pushed to the limits ⠀ @MatthewHahnel and I started traveling together when we were 19 years old (that’s now 10 years ago... yep we’re getting old ) Our first overseas trip as a couple was 2 months traversing across South America, and there were plenty of ups and downs! You think you know someone fairly well... until you see them vomiting up their guts, peeing in the backcountry, shattered after two long days of transit, or pushed to exhaustion on a multi-day trek. Over the course of those 2 months we saw the best and the worst sides of each other and I learned so much about our relationship I learned that it’s okay to look gross and feel vulnerable in front of each other, that at the end of the day it actually brings you closer. It showed me that we could both step up in times of need and take care of each other. It taught me to have A LOT of patience and kindness, even if it was the last thing I felt like doing. Travel can deliver moments that you don’t necessarily like to see or feel, but those moments also helped us grow and mature in ways we wouldn’t have done staying in the comforts of home ⠀ Would you guys be interested in hearing some tips on how we travel as a couple (and live + work together 24/7) without killing each other? Is there anything better than being in the mountains with your canine best friend? This photo is from our camping trip on top of one of my favourite peaks a few weekends ago, we had just had our breakfast (Olive had kibble and I had oatmeal) and we were catching rays & relaxing before the hike down. I certainly do love being at sea, but I already miss my pup a TON & its only been a few days. Luckily I have lots of whales around to keep me company instead
