Things I’ve been guilty of in the past but have learnt to overcome and won’t do again: 1. People pleasing - making choices that I’m not altogether happy with to please others. In its most extreme form: saying yes to things I don’t want to do to make somebody else happy, or happier. In a slightly different but equally unhealthy form: playing small in relation to my own goals and ambitions because pursuing them might inconvenience others, even if only in a small way. 2. Being overly concerned with what other people and “society” think and shying away from doing things I want to do for fear of being judged negatively. 3. Self-sabotaging because it’s safer than giving 100% to something and failing - inherent to this mindset was, of course, failing to understand that giving 100% to something and not succeeding is in no way a failure. 4. Not allowing myself to love something or live a certain way because of any or all of the above. ✨ Nowhere have these negative thought and behaviour patterns impacted me more than in the context of competitive bodybuilding. This year I have stepped out of my own way. If you see yourself in any of the above, I can’t encourage you more to do the same. #veganathlete #yourlifeyourrules
