I am an immigrant. And here is my story.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I grew up in Indonesia and came to America 7 years ago on my own as an international student to attend junior college.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When I graduated, I started a job at a company who sponsors work visas and was approved for one through a limited numbered lottery system.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Then, I found out I was pregnant and married my then-boyfriend so we can start our lives together. I got my green card just 2 months ago and waited almost 2 years for it. Now I can officially call myself an #IndonesianAmerican ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But not everyone had the same opportunity as I did. To be able to afford to go to school abroad, get sponsored for a job, have the lottery pick them and marry someone they truly love. It's a long process and by no means an easy one.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Some people come to America to escape war, poverty and have a chance at a better life. Immigrants pick up jobs that most Americans do not want to do like fruit picking and cleaning. And when they do get hired legally, it's because they have demonstrated a unique skill.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The anti-immigrant sentiment from DT is nothing new and have always hurt minorities. To have people chanting "Go back to your home country" to anyone who looks different than them is plain old racism.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ America is a nation made up of immigrants and diversity is what makes America great. To be able to experience and enjoy different cultures in this land whether it be through people, food and tradition is what makes America a truly special place. ♥️⁣⁣
