Invisible illnesses are incredibly difficult to deal with. Mostly because on top of the illness, we have to deal with not being believed. I often see people with mental illnesses saying if it was a physical illness people would pay attention, however anyone with a chronic illness will tell you that whatever people can't see they ignore. Mental illnesses also come under the invisible illness umbrella. ☂️ = How illnesses are categorised. An invisible illness is exactly what it sounds like, to the naked eye it is invisible. There are no broken parts, there are no scars/tears, no rotting & burning flesh or any of the "obvious" indicators that something is going wrong with a person. On the outside the person looks perfectly healthy, and because of this people often assume that said sick person is faking, is exaggerating, or is insane and making it up. I can honestly say that with all the people I've met, with a variety of conditions, every single one of them acts healthier than they are, not sicker! And this idea needs to be gotten rid of trust me these people are not faking. yes they may be one in every hundred thousand who lies, but most people don't want attention they want to be healthy. Vulerable Post Alert Hey y’all. This is one of the first days since my Chiari surgery that I can look at small letters without them getting blurry. I am 9 days post-op from a Chiari Decompression surgery with craniectomy and laminectomy of my c1 and some of my c2. (They removed the lower part of my skull and part of my c1 and c2 to make more room for my cerebellum so it would relieve pressure on my spinal cord.) I know I’m primarily a decor account but I want to share for two reasons. One. I have been so appreciative of the support and love my insta family has shown me. It truly means the world to me. Two. Chiari is technically considered a rare disorder but what is rare about it, is the amount of doctors that are knowledgeable about it. I have been searching for the last two years for a reasons for these horrible and persistent “headaches”, tinnitus, neuropathy and so much more. I finally found a wonderful doctor at Johns Hopkins who took on my case and the amazing nurses and techs that took care of me afterwards!!! I have a long road of healing ahead but I’m ready for it. Don’t stop fighting for your own health. ♥️ Decor has always been an outlet for me. i have autoimmune disorders because the only thing strong enough to kick my ass is me • this is what i wear on a daily basis. wound dressing, ostomy bag and belt, and toning underwear so that nobody knows what’s under my clothes! i’m proud of how i have handled all of the complications, mistreatment, and adjustments throughout this and i’m still able to look at myself in the mirror and see myself. • my wound is getting so small but still has to be packed and my parastomal ulcer and separation are getting a lot better too and less painful. i can’t wait to be healed and start preparing for my next surgeries
