At the end of the year, I give students the option to create memes about our school year and class; I show them their memes on the last day of school. Students always take this opportunity to roast me, which I think is just so funny! Building community and relationships until the very last day is so important. When I found out I won a teacher superlative, I was so excited! Would I be remembered for my dynamic lessons? My inspirational speeches? Alas! I will be remembered for my Peter Pan collars and hoop skirts, which I suppose is just as important Just kidding! I love that I won best fashion!! I don't even know how to begin. I am so indebted to this man, Mr. Greg Louie, my principal. He gave me a chance and hired me as a first-year high school social science teacher. At the time, I felt like no other school was willing to give me a chance. I became very self-conscious and my self-esteem was very low. I thought," Is no one willing to give this Asian American guy a chance to teach social science" My academic advisor had told me that it was an unfortunate reality and it still haunts me to this day. I was very discouraged. Then here comes, Mr. Louie, he reached out to me and told me he is finally able to offer me a position after my interview a few months prior. Since then, I felt I should give it my all for my students and the school to repay my gratitude. He has given me so many opportunities for my own personal and professional growth. I would not be where I am today without him. It is very sad to see him leave but he's going to be doing greater things at his new school. I am proud to say that I have been a teacher under his leadership. When I grow up, I want to be just like him. Last #feetupfriday of the school year! It is a quiet teacher work day today & it actually does not even feel real that year 7 of teaching is done. I do not think it will really hit me until the day when my husband’s alarm goes off & I won’t have to get ready. Instead I can drink my coffee on the couch in my PJs & make plans with my little people about what fun adventure we will do that day in #campmama ☀️ My boys and I have big summer plans of pool, library, youth pavilion, splash pads, parks, trails, outside, movies, games, books, projects & just enjoying this season. (Well, plus finally potty training the most stubborn 2.5 year old. Send advice, patience and wine). To kick off the summer is our first big family vacay, which includes the first time flying and seeing the ocean for my little guys. (So also send all the tips for flying with littles).
