Not long ago I came out of the darkest season of my life — a grueling and faith-rattling (and expensive) battle to conceive a child. I get to look at this beautiful girl every day of my life and dwell on what God did in and through me despite my lack of trust in His timing and plan. Not only do I feel His love coursing through my bones when I look her in the eyes, but I will feel that same love when my son arrives too and every day that I get to look into his. This girl was MEANT to be ours - to be in our family. She belonged here at the exact time she arrived and she belongs here now. • If you’ve been following our journey through all this, I hope it brings you to faith in God — that He is real, that He cares, that He is intentional and even when His ways are not our ways, they are higher. Today is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Grief is unpredictable in duration & it’s non-linear qualities. It’s heavy & sharp & hard & painful. At times, overwhelming & almost devastatingly complete in its ability to alter how the world looks, feels, tastes, & moves. It eases for a second, only to sweep you in the next. Grief & suffering always seem to command our attention. They’re never alleviated by comparison to a greater or lesser suffering. Your pain is YOUR pain & it deserves the dignity of recognition. There are so many women that are silent about this topic and we often forget that there is so much grief & suffering surrounding us. This past April we lost our baby due to a more rare type of miscarriage. There has been what feels like endless amounts of blood work, not being allowed to get pregnant again due to high risk factors & health issues, being back on birth control, wild hormones, and constant feelings of pregnancy sickness. It’s shattered & altered everything in my world. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a miscarriage...think about that. That’s a lot of women out there dealing with really, really painful stuff. I hope that if you know someone who has dealt with this pain, you reach out today & tell them that you love them and are thinking of them. Not a day goes by that you don’t remember the pain you endure or the heartache of losing your baby. I lay my hope and strength in Christ, & hope that by opening up and sharing my story other women feel brave enough to tell theirs. I won’t forget our baby, or the moments of joy we felt when we learned that we were going to be parents. The brokenness creeps in and is a daily struggle. Let it remind you of your deep need for Jesus. Because when the world moves on & seems to focus on more trivial things - forgetting about you and your pain, be reminded of the overwhelming love of Christ. Every time you see an image or post about pregnancy, birth, or parenting, & you feel a sting straight to the heart, don’t get lost in the pain. Cont. in comments:
