I found this Kate Spade Small Hayden Satchel this afternoon while thrifting. I was confused about the low price until I flipped it over and saw what I assumed was denim dye transfer all along the back. - Even if I can’t repair it, I get to perform science experiments! Mwhahahaha! (That was my Evil Inventor/Mad Scientist Laugh) And if successful, I get an Instagram post out of it. So here we are. - What we are working with is a cross hatched leather surface. In evaluating the material I’m working with, I note that it feels a lot like a canvas (which is a plus in regard to durability in case I need to aggressively scrub at it), but it’s creased with fine semi-deeply etched texture (That will make it difficult to get to some of that transferred dye). - I did my standard Amodex applications first, and while that did result in some improvement, it was slow going. I decided to break out the nuclear option instead. - I am very leery of using Mr. Clean White Erasers casually. Yes, it removes marks from your walls... along with the paint. I am always concerned when using those about the potential of taking the original color, along with the stain, off the item I’m cleaning. But, #gameon i used the eraser. - I added two pictures of the inside of shoes I cleaned today; on one I used Amodex and the other a white erase marker. You could make the argument that the latter (right shoe) has more dirt removed- but you can also see where It removed the color from the insoles. Pick your poison. - Anyway, back to the bag. Important!! I covered the purse’s black straps and edges with washi tape (masking tape would also be fine) to keep from accidentally removing color from those locations. - I used a small circular scrubbing motion followed by a warm slightly damp cloth swiped across the surface of the bag. This was not a quick fix, (I spent probably 20 minutes on her) and it wasn’t a perfect success, but it was a substantial improvement. I’d be totally comfortable reselling this bag now. - Tl;dr: Strong cleaners can sometimes remove more than just the stain.

You never know what someone is going through. Definitely my favorite handbag brand and designer. I always loved the bright colors and simple shapes (swipe to see my collection I am lucky enough to own). I had wanted one of her bags for so long and was so happy when I saved up enough to find some at outlets or second hand. And as silly as it seems that I am talking about bags or style, it's just so sad that someone who created so much brightness and fun for others was suffering so deeply. As someone who struggled and is struggling with mental health and only recently started seeking therapy, I am really grateful for resources and friends.
