Hi my dear friends! I have always told that language and culture are closely connected. The language is the part of our culture and it’s a reflection of people’s mentalities ⠀ But now let’s look at the examples of this connection! ⠀ Pronoun ‘you’ in Russian. There are two forms ‘ты’ and ‘Вы’. It’s very important to know when you should say ‘ты’ or ‘Вы’. ‘Вы’ is formal, to apply to elderly, to the teacher or boss. ‘Ты’ is informal, for friends and colleagues. ⠀ In English there was ‘thou’ and it was replaced with ‘you’. It emphasizes that all people are equal, teacher and pupils, boss and subordinates. ⠀ The word ‘soul’ ‘душа’ in Russian is used very often. As in English this word is replaced with such words as ‘heart’, ‘feel’ or ‘mind’. For example ‘peace of mind’ is ‘душевное спокойствие’ (peace of soul) in Russian. ⠀ Articles are very important in English, as there are no articles in Russian. It shows that the same objects are perceived differently by people. It’s still difficult for me feel the line between the use of articles.‍♀️ ⠀ Such examples tell a lot about people, their values. ⠀ It’s amazing that the language is a reflection of our culture and our way of thinking.
