In my stories today I talked about an inspiring article from Sister Neill F. Marriott that talked about an experience she had sitting next to someone who was very different from her. She talks about her anxieties and fears that she had toward this person that appeared to be so different from her. The magical part of the story comes as she begins to talk with this man and realizes that they actually have quite a few things in common. She even says that by the end of the night she had grown to love this man. In her words:

“How grateful I am that I overcame my initial hesitation that night. Had I let fear and misunderstanding stop me from talking to Baldev, I would have missed out on connecting with a wonderful person. Instead of building a foundation of understanding, I could have built a wall between us. We can’t do that. We’ve got to break down those walls. We have to be winning to sit by, listen to, and share with those who seem different from us.”

We are all God’s children. He created us all so different. He loves each one of us and He wants us to return to Him TOGETHER. One simple way I like to “go together” rather than “go alone” is find someone new to sit by in Relief Society or Sunday School each Sunday. It’s easy to sit by those who we are comfortable with, but oh how we miss out by not meeting someone new!
