MYTH - "BNI is a complete and utter waste of time".... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I hear that a lot from business owners. Allow me to explain why that's NOT the case, irrespective of your business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BNI is a referral network, you are not selling to the people in the room. It's frustrating to hear "xx will never be a customer of mine" - that's not the point. You don't know, who people know. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In business each of us know potentially 1000's of business owners. Let's say we know 100 we can REALLY have conversations with, we know them well enough to go for a pint... that kind of relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If the BNI Group has 35 members that means there's around 3500 really strong connections with the potential for many thousands more. Does that make sense? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you come to BNI and give nothing, contribute little, then yes, it will be a waste of time, theirs as well as yours. The difference between successful people in life and those who are unsuccessful is the difference between instant reward. Successful people will create a vision, goals and a daily plan, carrying out the lesser thankful tasks in order to reach their vision. For these tasks their is little reward. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On the other hand unsuccessful people don't have clearly set goals (if you're reading this and it resonates - don't panic, you can change this!). There is a lack of vision or too many conflicting visions - lack of clarity - and this means that the daily tasks don't work to fulfil the vision. As a result, these people will seek out quick-win rewards and moments of feel-good. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reading a book often doesn't reward immediately. There are no exciting intros, titles or dramatic music. The reward is longer-term it comes together after you've invested time reading the book. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I read this idea recently and it was obviously apparent to me - Most successful people read books. Most unsuccessful people watch social media and Netflix.
